Hello I am Nicky Hayes - a psychologist who has had a varied career teaching, learning, researching and communicating psychology. I am now semi-retired and living in the far North of Scotland, but previously I lived in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, and before that the City of Leeds. I edit a couple of online newsletters, and do occasional consultancy projects. I have written a variety of books about psychology, and edited or contributed to several more. My interests have changed as I have grown older, but include animal behaviour, the psychology of interactive design, small business management, social identification and social representations, psychometrics, and the application of psychology to effective everyday practice. On the recreational front, I particularly enjoy reading science fiction, some biographies, and of course the great Terry Pratchett. My most recent books include a new edition of "Doing Psychological Research", a general methods textbook helpful for anyone contemplating a research project in psychology or a related area; "Understand Psychology" in the Teach Yourself series, "Fundamentals of Social Psychology", a major textbook from Routledge, "A Student's Dictionary of Psychology and Neuroscience", and "Your Brain and You" - a simple guide to neuropsychology, also published as part of the Teach Yourself Series.
