Hello, thanks for visiting my bio. I'm the brother part of the brother/sister collaboration, Alison Belsham and Nick Higgins. We're writing what we hope will become a series of books featuring Alasdair "Mac" MacKenzie set (mostly?) in Afghanistan. I worked in Afghanistan as a security contractor from late 2003 untill 2007 on a variety of projects, mostly for the UN and NGOs. I was lucky enough to be present for the Constitutional Loya Jerga in Kabul in 2003/4 and then I worked extensively on the 2004 Presidential Election, mostly in the west of the country. Based in Herat City I was able to travel round Herat, Badghis, Farah and Ghor Provinces. I spent just over 2 months in Kandahar running security and logistics for a Canadian Broadcasting Documentary crew and nearly a year in Helmand Province on an aid project. After finishing in Afghanistan I moved to the US and spent nearly 6 years as an anti-terrorism and Force Protection instructor to the United States Marine Corps. I am a former member of The Parachute Regiment and served in the 2nd Battalion. I returned to the UK in 2019. You can contact me via @ANHigginswriter on twitter.
