Retired geological survey scientist Millard Hiner is the author of the popular three-book Amazon series: "Successful Supervisor Series." His work is focused on supervisory and team-building training, taking a holistic approach and covering all elements of what it takes to be a successful and effective supervisor. Millard worked for over 20 years as a geological survey supervisor, beginning his career with the Water Resources Division (WRD) of the US Geological Survey (USGS), Water Resources Division (WRD) in Eureka, California, while majoring in engineering at Humboldt State College. After a move to the WRD USGS's headquarters in Alaska, he transferred to Redding California, where he took on his first supervisory role before becoming a team leader back in Alaska. From here, his career became increasingly focused on supervision, and in 1976, he left the organization and started his own water resources consulting business, The Hydraulic Data Services of Alaska. The company served influential clients, including the State of Alaska Department of Natural Resources and the US Forest Service, and Millard continued to refine his management skills. He returned to the USGS in 1979, again taking a supervisory role and eventually retiring with over 34 years of service. In 1999, he began the website design company WhiteGyr Web Design, supervising a diverse team. Now retired, he is dedicated to sharing his vast expertise in supervision and management with a broader audience through his writing. Millard was married to his first wife, Sharon, for over 50 years, and they had three children. Sometime after Sharon’s death, he married his childhood friend, Beatrice. Beatrice now lives in San Francisco, Millard is in Montana with his daughter and her husband. Millard enjoys writing, watching TV and spending time with his family.
