Dave Powell is the author of Hands-On: The Volunteer’s Guide to Making a Difference. His work guides readers to ensure that their work has maximum impact, focusing on volunteer management, engagement, and development. Dave holds advanced degrees in organizational leadership and management. Now retired, he is a 43-year veteran of one of the nation’s largest nonprofits. His career saw him recognized as leading faculty for the YMCA’s national training and leadership development program, and he also worked at the local level in various senior roles. During his time with the organization, he was certified as a national trainer in 20 skill and leadership-based core learning areas in three different learning modalities, and he also wrote for their professional journal as a columnist. Presenting has been a key component throughout his career, but he hasn’t always had an easy time with it, sometimes suffering from anxiety and sleepless nights. Yet the necessity for public speaking and delivering presentations in his professional life soon hooked him on public speaking, and he was able to transfer his skills to all speaking engagements and constantly learn from his mistakes. He aims to teach others what he’s learned through both his mistakes and his successes. Dave is married with one daughter, whom he loves dearly. He is passionate about personal growth and describes himself as a lifelong learner, always eager to broaden his knowledge and deepen his understanding.
