Ally Sherrick was born in Epsom, Surrey. When she was growing up she wanted to be an Egyptologist and dig up mummies - the type wrapped in bandages, not the living breathing ones! At school her favourite subjects were English and History. After school, she studied for a degree in Medieval English and History with French at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne and went on to enjoy a long career in public relations and marketing. More recently, she took an MA in Writing for Children and fell in love with reading children's books all over again. Her award-winning first novel, 'Black Powder', published in 2016, is a page-turning adventure about young Catholic boy, Tom's desperate quest to save his father from the hangman's noose at the time of the infamous Gunpowder Plot. Ally's second novel, 'The Buried Crown', is set during World War Two and tells the story of a brave evacuee boy, George and his refugee friend, Kitty and their bid to outwit the attempt of a band of Nazis to steal a priceless Anglo-Saxon crown. Her third novel, 'The Queen's Fool' is an exciting Tudor adventure set at the court of King Henry VIII and Queen Katherine of Aragon. 'Vita and the Gladiator', her new Roman London-set story will be published by Chicken House Books in February 2023. Ally believes we can all be the heroes of our own stories. She is a founding member of The Time Tunnellers, a small group of historical fiction authors for young people enthusing them to 'dig for the story in history'.
