About this listen
An enemies-to-lovers lesbian romance about sexy, smart doctors cutting to the heart of what matters.
Skilled surgeon Veronica Mallick runs her London hospital department like she runs her surgeries: with hawkish efficiency. Then her perfect world is turned upside down by the arrival of a new Head of Trauma.
Cassie Taylor is a brash, no-nonsense army surgeon, fresh from the front lines, and trying to find her way in civilian life. She's all action and sharp edges, not too interested in rules. She's even less interested in bureaucracy, or playing nice with her uptight, paper-pushing colleague, Veronica.
While they're circling each other warily at St. Sophia's hospital, Cassie becomes entangled in some shady financial dealings. Their shared search for the truth draws them closer together, sparking heated moments as they try to see justice done. But in exposing a scandal, can they also find some common ground? How will they both deal with being attracted to a woman they don't even like?

Very real
The description of each event is brilliant. It's very well written and narrated. By the end of the book I felt that I knew each character.

Amazing
I absolutely loved the NHS hospital set up, it was amazing to hear all the little quirks because it’s something I see everyday! It was so British which I loved.
There was little bit of random police hating was in there which wasn’t super necessary as the main characters were sensible women who would be seeing police in the hospital daily and would know it’s not like that.
Also the voice for the teen son was a bit dodgy but the voices of the ladies were genuinely amazing and I loved the slight UK accent differences

Enjoyable story
Good paced story. Enjoyed all the more as the characters were mature, with real life experience.

Believable
Often romance novels jump abruptly from hate to love. This book made the transition a smoother ride.

I found this a nice read and easy to follow. I'm surprised at other comments about the narrator. I thought she done really well.

Surgery - maybe minor
This is a well written & NICE book 📖 .. very slow build up indeed.
What spoils the book for me is the narration - awful accents - too divergent - very Scouse & very upper class... and still kept getting the 2 main characters mixed up...
The additional secondary story was just tagged onto the end (almost as an afterthought).
Worth a listen to but not what you would class a "page turner" ...

Good story badly spoiled by the narration
The strong point of this story is its excellent plot. However it is let down by some of the writing and the obviously inexperienced narrator, whose pacing is difficult at times. She also uses a very unconvincing, strange sounding and out of place upper-class English accent for significant parts of the audiobook.
The bad and out of place, posh, upper-class accent is totally cringe-worthy and oddly changes to become a more ordinary, middle-class English as the audiobook progresses. This left me to question why the posh accent was used by the narrator at all since it was obviously unnecessary and I was annoyed because it spoiled the audiobook so much.
To the narrator's credit is her portrayal of atmosphere and emotion. Also appreciated are her attempts at a range of regional accents which, despite being unconvincing, are helpful because they differentiate between the various characters.
BTW I found that speeding up the narration made it flow much better and the awful, clipped, upper-class English accent grated less on my ears.
