What's wrong with the narrator?

The majority of the reviewers on here complained about the narrator, I didn't see why, I thought she was good. If anything, it was the words she had to work with, for example, every time she said, "Oh My!", I couldn't stop laughing as nobody says that, unless they're in a Jane Austen novel.

Anyway, forgetting all the rumpy pumpy, I found this quite sad, in that Christian is obviously struggling from a horrible start in life, and has closed himself off to others as a result. Will be getting the next two when my credits arrive.

“Oh my” I murmured, I flush and my breath hitches!

Very repetitive writing that starts to grate after a while. Not nearly as good as I was expecting after all the hype, but glad I’ve finally ticked it off.

Extremely surprising

I decided to download 50 Shades as I do a lot of driving at work and therefore a lot of time to kill. Of course I'd heard of the whirlwind the books, as well as the films, had created. These were grounded in laughing reviews at how terrible they were (especially the film which I had flicked through myself and came to the same conclusion) and how it's just another 'badly written erotic novel'. So for the time being, I took their wisdom and stayed away.

Now at a bit of a loss as to the next super easy book to listen to a few years down the line, I found myself thinking: how can I possibly form an opinion of these if I haven't read them myself? Dazed night-shift curiosity got the better of me and I downloaded it.

At first I literally sighed and rolled my eyes at the cheesey American accent and the bluntness of the writing. I thought I can at least give it the decency to get through the first chapter.

Which I did, and found myself excited to listen to the next. And the next. And the next. Now I've finished, I couldn't download the next book in the series sooner. The plot developed and thickened and got me wanting more. The erotic sections were just as they needed to be - a bit of fun every now and then but I always kept thinking: at least this has got a good plot I can follow. At the end, I even found myself bubbling with a bit of emotion thinking: no! It can't finish like this! On top of that, I finished this book in about a week - quite a feat for me!

Once you wade through the painstaking acceptance of Battoe's attempt at male voices (it sounds like a young child making fun of their male elders) and British accent (I laughed every time she tried, but try she did! Thank god it was only one chapter), I found her voice actually fitted Ana's quite well. And since the book is almost one big monologue, I appreciated it by the end.

Needless to say the book surprised me and I surprised myself by actually enjoying it - a lot. The second film is due to come out any time now, and maybe I'll go see it in a new light - that the casting isn't as awful as I first thought but those all important scenes leave a lot to be desired! Very excited to start the second book and see which path it takes.

A bit boring

I got a bit tired of the same repeated sequences and use of vocabulary for the sex scenarios as they were very frequent.
I really hope the story line picks up in the next book.

Loved the books but the audio was a let down

Loved the books but the audio was a let down - the voice was wrong and mono-tone.
A much better read in print.

Loved this book

If you do not like graphic descriptions of adult scenes then maybe this book is not for you.
I personally really liked this book although I must admit that the narration was not great. The girl was making annoying man's voice and certain phrases were just a bit annoying, but apart from that, I loved the book. One reader described as porno on audio, well, if you do not enjoy a bit of adult romance and like more fairy tail romance, then this book might be a bit of a shock, but I would recommend to try it.

Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades

Introducing Anna and Christian, could have been a little less on the raunchy side, although the storyline does get slowly to the point. Book One is all about Christian and Anna exporing Christian's world, rather than Christian the man. I would also say the book is about several shades of Anna. The reader is swept away on a tide of Grey. I wondered at some points in the book if the expicit input really needed to be so graphic?. I would encorage readers to read book Two and Three and find the answer for themselves.

Enjoyed the book, did have to skip a bit of the expicit scenes, even for me were a little too expicit. I would have prefered some of it to be left to the readers imagination.
