What would happen if a viral agent was released on American soil? How would local agencies react? How would the military respond? What if it was one of their own? Would they own it or attempt to cover it up? If a major operation was jeopardized because of the release, would that alter any of the decisions? A potent viral agent, created to destabilize a region for forces to move in and clean up, is accidentally spilled in a metropolis. Those infected serve only to afflict others through any means.

The ARES Virus ran rampant throughout the world, leaving very few remaining. There are no sanctuaries in the midst of the infected, where the very air is contaminated. For the few surviving, the slightest misstep can introduce the viral agent into their midst, bringing an end to the last vestige of humankind. However, there's too much at stake to merely hover in the shadows. Remnants of the navy survive the catastrophe, but humankind has never been able to live for long periods upon the world's oceans.

The race is on. The last remnants of humankind fight to maintain their very existence. Everything is at stake as they push to preserve their homeland. Forward bases have been established, but they have a long ways to go if they’re to carve out a sanctuary. Not only do the survivors have millions of infected to worry about, but there is a ticking time bomb that they have to diffuse. The western forces have secured an island, but it’s not truly theirs. The air is contaminated by the millions of infected.

The sanctuary walls were breached and through them poured screaming hordes of night runners. About to be overrun, the survivors formed a last stand against the thousands that threatened to end their existence. Inexplicably, the night runners, who were on the verge of taking one of the last vestiges of humanity, departed, carrying the limp body of Lynn with them.

Jack Walker and the other survivors continue their search for others. Unbeknownst to them, the night runners have initiated their own gathering and, with Michael's leadership, they are adapting. The survivors learn about some of these adaptations and strive to stay one step ahead. Their continued existence depends on it.

Dark clouds gather... A storm is breaking... With the sanctuary built, there is a respite from the nightly night runner assaults. Jack Walker and the group of survivors have bought themselves a little breathing room. Or have they? A peaceful daytime outing turns into yet another nightmare sweeping Robert and Bri up with it. The world has changed. Another danger has emerged. Ferocious packs of night runners still prowl at night and Jack must now locate and rescue his kids.

One threat has been destroyed - another grows stronger. Even though Jack and the teams have won a major confrontation, their lives still hang by a thread. There are decisions to be made, and ones that have never been more critical.

Their harrowing journey from the Middle East included a stop at the CDC where they learned vital information about the ferocious new species that hunt at night. The night runners dominate the landscape and a world turned upside down by the sudden death of billions.

The rescue of hostages stirred up a hornet’s nest. Not one to take a defeat, the cartel plans for retaliation. News of an impending attack drifts through the intelligence channels and Red Team is called on to respond. On the other side of the world, the mysterious group taking out special operations teams strikes again. The symbols carved into foreheads they leave behind the only clue of their existence. Deep in the forests, hunters of a different nature prowl the nights.

Lynn has been rescued from deep within the heart of a night runner lair. The answer to why she was taken remains a mystery. Sandra lies in a pool of her own blood, ending her desperate measures to draw Jack to her. As Red Team celebrates their joy of Lynn's freedom, they are unaware that a sight is centered on them from afar. A bullet tears through the air, streaking their way.

Awareness grows... The gathering commences.... The world has changed. Jack Walker and the other survivors must adjust with it if they are to have a chance. They've managed to stay one step ahead so far but the gap is narrowing. The night runners are growing and adapting. The rules are changing. Winter is coming and the survivors must ready themselves for the long season. With Robert and Bri rescued from captivity, Jack focuses on the days ahead.

Having recovered from the expedition into Lycan territory, an old foe is again making their appearance. The cartel has raised the stakes, drawing Red Team to the south. Hunting silently in dark alleys and jungle depths, they search for two DEA hostages. While endeavoring to dismantle an empire, they encounter something way over their head.

The seven Seals were broken and the trumpets sounded, their notes echoing around the world. Four horsemen had emerged from the midst of roiling storms and set loose upon humanity. Civilization ended in smoke and flame with clouds of radioactivity encircling the globe. 144,000 had been marked and were the only survivors, driven underground by the poisonous conditions and the nuclear winter which followed the exchange of atomic weapons. The exception is a valley held under the protection of four angels holding a corner of the world free. Those few who remain hold the future hope for humanity in a land where the darkness holds sway. The nuclear winter has ended. Survivors cautiously begin to peek out of their underground shelters, each having endured their separate trials. They emerge into a foreign land wiped bare from the ferocious storms and glaciers. Many find signs directing them to a land prepared, but the journey over inhospitable terrain is daunting. In the protected valley, life begins anew. Two groups have fragmented the peaceful valley, each certain they are right in their beliefs. The barrier still stands, holding off the harsh weather, but for how long? Something dark has begun gathering.

Red Team continues their search for the two kidnapped DEA agents, systematically attempting to dismantle the cartel responsible. The agent’s location remains elusive, but Red Team continues the fight to force their release. The cartel digs in, but will they be able to halt Red Team's incursions?
