  • The Historian S1E2 - "A Brief Literature Review and Journal Critique of Greek Religion"
    Sep 21 2023

The study of ancient Greek religion is a discipline in which new information and perspectives constantly challenge the established understanding of historical material. Historians must continually re-assess the original data, current interpretations, and accepted understanding of information discovered up until that point. Often it becomes necessary to critique and review scholarly work to identify research gaps, update previous research with new information, and ensure academic integrity and uniformity in modern research literature.

It is the intent of this podcast to critique four (4) journal articles across a wide spectrum of Greek religious topics for verification of the usage of unified historical research methods and the identification of potential areas of interest needing further exploration. Each critique will consist of a brief evaluation of the author’s approach, the evidence provided to support this approach, and as assessment of the work’s value in the overall research currently accepted in modern academic venues.

  • The Historian S1E1 - "On the Freedom of a Christian"
    Sep 12 2023

The Reformation was a period of substantial change occurring in a fairly short time span (historically speaking). Traditional ideologies in all aspects of society were being challenged and new concepts/ideas were being developed at an unprecedented rate. Individuals normally not usually considered to be “power-players” suddenly emerged at the forefront of these changes – often questioning the agenda and intent of those in positions of leadership and/or power.,

It is the intent of this podcast to briefly examine one such individual – Martin Luther – and more specifically, his dialogue with Pope Leo X as contained in his missive entitled “On the Freedom of a Christian”. Preliminary background information will be provided on both individuals followed by a brief examination of Luther’s letter.
