Nourishing the Mother

By: Bridget Wood & Julie Tenner
  • Summary

  • Mothering can be an inspired journey to our most glittering, authentic, passionate, creative and connected selves. Through the mirror offered to us by our children, we are taken to every hurt, unmet need, and also every joy and excitement we’ve ever experienced. We want every woman and mother to give themselves and those around them the compassion, love and healing they so readily offer their children, but rarely allow themselves. Journey with us as we discuss the many layers of being a mother today, where we have come from and where we want to go. Learn tools to connect with yourself, offer compassion to those parts we’d rather deny and get back in love with yourself, motherhood and who you are as a feminine woman.

  • NTM 498: Less pressure, more purpose: Why you need a word of the year
    Jan 6 2025

Feeling overwhelmed by resolutions that fizzle out before February? In this episode, we explore a simpler, more purposeful way to guide your year: choosing one word. But what about the fear of locking in a word and experiencing the fallout if it doesn’t live up to your hopes? We’ll unpack why this fear holds us back from creating what we truly want and how to shift it. Discover how a single, intentional word can help you stay focused, aligned, and inspired—without the pressure of rigid goals. Find out how to choose your word, embody it daily, and let it become your compass for a more grounded, meaningful year. Because sometimes, less really is more.

    In this episode we discuss:

    - Balancing the pressure of a new year with gratitude for the previous year

    - Feeling a sense of lack because we’re looking at our year in a silo

    - Interacting with your word of the year

    - Knowing your word will sit differently depending on the season you’re in

    - Dancing with and embodying your word

    - Experiencing the light and dark of your word

    - Choosing a word that allows you to expand in creative ways

    - Being open the form your word takes and holding the fear

    - The manifestation of your word will be present in your top values but the form may be different

    - Holding fear around choosing a word

    - Do more with inspiration towards your future rather than avoiding a pain of the past

    - Holding back and tiptoeing around what we fear will happen

    - Imagining a bigger vision that is fulfilling to grow towards

    - You can use your word gently or to bludgeon yourself with; it’s your word to move with

  • NTM 497: “We’re so busy—we have no time to talk, let alone connect.”
    Dec 30 2024

Sound familiar? In this episode, we unpack how busyness becomes a sneaky barrier to intimacy, creating disconnection, silence, and resentment—even when you’re sharing a life together. You’ll learn why this happens, how to break the cycle, and the small, intentional actions that can bring you back to each other amidst the chaos of life. Because connection doesn’t need more time—it needs more intention.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • How busyness acts as a coping mechanism to avoid feeling

    • Why “keeping busy” feels easier than addressing feelings of disconnection or resentment

    • How busyness keeps couples in logistical partnership (“What’s the schedule?”) instead of emotional connection

    • How busyness feels productive, but it can become a way to avoid the very connection you long for

    • Intimacy isn’t always about grand gestures—it's built in micro-moments of presence

    • Creating “connection snacks”

    • The chaos doesn’t need to stop for connection to happen

    • “Offloading” together: Sharing the invisible to-do list and dividing responsibilities

    • Interrupting resentment with shared laughter and small acts of tenderness

  • NTM 496: I’m not organised enough to sit with your emotions right now
    Dec 23 2024

How do we forget, every single year, what December is like as mums? We somehow expect ourselves to 10X the events, organisation, and emotional load — without creating any extra space for it.
    Sound familiar? Us too.
But as conscious mums, we’re always asking: How can we realign, embody, ground, and anchor ourselves in the chaos?
Let's explore how to hold it all — without losing ourselves in the process.

    In the episode we discuss:
    - When you’re already full, how do you fit more in?
    - Berating ourselves for not being more patient, more organised and more present
    - The organisation required to hold our kids’ anxiety for an event is often bigger than the organisation of the actual event
    - Just like your kids, are you allowed to feel overwhelmed? Can you make it okay?
    - Shifting from ‘I’m not doing enough’ when they meltdown to ‘What if they need this?’
    - How much flexibility can you bring to your festive season?
    - Can you throw out any rules around how this festive season should be
    - Nice enough is good enough
    - What’s your guiding intention for this season?
    - When things don’t go to plan, when kids aren’t met, we can hold and anchor
    - If we can’t be with our own guilt or shame, we’ll find it hard to be with our kids’ disappointment
    - How do you want this time of year to feel?
