Navigating Space In Lockdown - voices of young Black & Minoritised people during lockdown

By: Shirley Jackson
  • Summary

  • The Ubele Initiative has partnered with University College London’s Bartlett Development Planning Unit and FOAM20 to bring you “Navigating Space Under Lockdown” - a collaborative, mixed methods research project, documenting the perspectives and experiences of Black and racially minoritised young adults (aged 18 to 35) in England.

Responding to a gap in current understandings, the project explored how young Black and minoritised people’s experiences of home, work, mobility, community and well-being have been affected by the pandemic and by prolonged periods of lockdown.

With the support and guidance of 12 peer research volunteers the project reached out to over 150 young adults from across England.

A short film and podcast series captured the diverse voices and experiences of this age group, navigating space under lockdown.

A summary of the project’s key findings can be found on the website.

People who live in the most deprived areas of England and Wales are around twice as likely to die after contracting covid 19...why?

Is this due to unfortunate circumstances or are there much deeper, societal issues causing this?

In this episode we have Sufiatu, Sim & Moeed Majeed
