  • Summary

  • Whenever a tragic event happens, our first thoughts are with the victims, their families, and even with the motives driving the perpetrators. But what happens after the police tape comes down? Damned Spot revisits the places where painful memories of death and destruction still linger, and explores what a building and, ultimately, a community needs in order to heal.

When you add Damned Spot to your library you will receive all 4 episodes, each with a runtime of approximately 25 minutes.

  • Ep. 1: McDonalds
    Oct 26 2017

In July of 1984, an armed man walked into a McDonald’s in San Ysidro and murdered 21 people. At the time, it was the deadliest mass shooting in US history. The massacre created a strange dilemma for McDonald’s: what happened wasn’t their fault, but the event was becoming synonymous with their brand. The corporation decided to replace the branch’s windows, clean up the blood, and reopen their doors to the public. But the survivors had a different plan.

    Oct 26 2017

Randall Bell is a real estate appraiser who specialises in stigmatised properties — places that have become synonymous with violence. In this episode of Damned Spot, we examine some of Randall’s most notorious assignments: the condo where Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were murdered, the mansion where 39 members of the Heaven’s Gate cult committed suicide, and the home of Sandy Hook mass shooter Adam Lanza.

Interesting

Interesting stories, but hardly mind blowing.
Any place where disasters or crimes have happened will always intrigue people to have a look it's human nature.

good episode, but...

the background music is too loud in several places which is distracting, but the rest is good

An antidote to ghoulishness

I’m surprised at some of the negative reviews here. This short series is an engrossing and balanced examination of how individuals and communities try to overcome the stigma of horrible (and in one case fictional and sensationalised) events that have blighted their town or home. It’s about sensible, normal people dealing with bad stuff. Certainly the best free offering I’ve come across on Audible to date.

Fascinating - would love to hear more!

Really interesting podcast that looks at ways to reuse some sites with the most awful associations. Wish the episodes were automatically played one after the next, like chapters in a book, and I was so interested I would love to hear more.

Interesting aspect to these sorts of cases

I found this podcast interesting and well put together but a very short series. It was interesting to delve deeper into the properties involved in horrific crimes.

Ver interesting

I can't say I enjoyed these podcasts but I'm glad I listened to them. They have definitely given me a great deal to think about. About human nature, how one event can influence the future and how much more needs to be done.

Best audible original I’ve listened to

So engaging and interesting, and I absolutely didn’t expect it to be! Doesn’t sound like the most interesting premise but I loved this. Please make more!
