Summary
They live as outcasts, hated and feared by the very humanity they protect. They are mutants, born with strange and wonderful powers that set them apart from the rest of the human race. Under the tutelage of Professor Charles Xavier, they are more than mutants. They are the X-Men.
Magneto, the X-Men's oldest, deadliest foe, has taken over a top-secret government installation that houses the Sentinels, powerful mutant-hunting robots. The X-Men must fight to keep this deadly technology out of Magneto's hands. But the Acolytes, Magneto's fanatical mutant followers, stand between the X-Men and victory - a victory that’s quickly slipping away - for a more ruthless enemy, the US government, holds the X-Men responsible for the installation's takeover!
This electrifying novel by acclaimed author Christopher Golden is the ultimate adventure that no X-fan should be without!

Awesome
Speaking as a lifelong X-Men fan, both on screen and page, I thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to listening to the rest of the trilogy. Nancy Wu is a great story teller and i was never disinterested in what was going on. She tries to give each character their own voice and for the most part succeeds in making them easy to distinguish from each other.
However, i recommend you have some knowledge of the X-Men's comic history, like the Shi'Ar Empire or the Avengers storyline Operation:Galactic Storm. The story is very heavily based on the then current status quo of mid 90s Marvel reflected in the X-Men's roster and references to other Teams running around. Also, while Wu is am excellent narrator not all her voices fit, her Storm and Gambit are kind of odd especially the latter.
