About this listen
The passionate and tragic story of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff is one of the high points of 19th-century Romantic literature. In the relationship of Cathy and Heathcliff, and in the wild, bleak Yorkshire Moors of its setting, Wuthering Heights creates a world of its own, conceived with a disregard for convention and an instinct for poetry and the darkest depths of the human soul in torment.

A marathon not a sprint
Patricia Routledge's interpretation of this classic novel is a delight. She brings a balance between clear narrative and the accents of the Yorkshire characters. Her story telling held me all through the many hours of listening as I gardened or went about household chores

An old favourite
I have previously listened to the abridged version, and this one with more detail is more harrowing, but a really good story nonetheless.
I like Patricia Routledge very much but do not feel that she is suited to this particular story - I found her voice 'wrong' and her histrionics a little over the top. I know I am probably alone in this opinion as many reviews comment favourably on her narration.
Overall though very enjoyable.

Awful people
I had not read Wuthering Heights or seen the film and so did not know what to expect. The narrator was great. My problem is that I found it difficult to care about any of the characters, they were all so awful to each other and made so many terrible decisions. I am pleased that I finished this audiobook but I don't think that I will be keen to repeat the experience.

Probably the best book I have ever read
Gripping, all the way through. It is hard to imagine it was written by someone so young and with relatively little experience in life as to write something as deep, intelligent and as moving as this.
I recommend it to anybody who would like to loose themselves completely for a day or two or as long as it takes to finish the book.
I don’t think I shall ever tire of reading this book, or listening to it, over and over again.

Very good
Ever since I saw ITV's version of Wuthering Heights where Tom Hardy plays Heathcliffe, I've been in love with this story. I'd always wanted to read it, and I tried a few years ago but couldn't make any sense of the old English, so listening to the audiobook was so much easier to understand. It's a tragic but amazing love story which I enjoyed from start to finish.

Not the romantic novel I'd anticipated!
I had been expecting an emotional romance, tugging at my heart strings, but I fear Kate Bush's song might have given me the wrong idea of this story! Patricia Routledge performs well and managed to make the dialect understandable to me, which is what put me off when I tried to read it years ago. But apart from the characters of Nellie Dean & Mr Lockwood, everyone is AWFUL! Young Cathy (Linton) & her father have their moments, but even she's a spoilt brat most of the time! I thought I'd be moved beyond measure by the passionate, powerful love story of Heathcliff and Catherine, but I just hated them both, such horrible people, and they couldn't die fast enough for me! I'm glad I've 'read' it, but I'm also glad it's over 😊
