About this listen

Seneca is the complete package. He's smart, sexy, and confident, much to Chevy's annoyance. They've worked with each other for two years, and even though Chevy might secretly find his partner charming and attractive, playful harassment is all they have.

Chevy was born with a unique gift that allows him to go into the memories of others. As detective, he uses this ability to find peace for victims who have been hurt or attacked. He delves into their memories and can pick out minute details that will help them put the criminal behind bars.

But neither Chevy nor Seneca are prepared when they are asked to go into the mind of a serial killer in hopes of finding survivors. They are even more unprepared for the monsters they find inside the man's mind. Drawn into a memory where it's hard to figure out where the truth exists, they realize that there may be more to the serial killer than they originally thought. The dark world draws the two men together in a way they never dreamed. It will take everything Chevy and Seneca can give to stop the darkness that could consume their minds. As the two are forced to face what is keeping them apart, together they realize that there's more to the mind and heart than either of them know.

I loved everything about this book

Alice Winters is an amazing author so when I see anything by her it's an automatic buy for me. This is the first book in a new series and the characters are absolutely awesome. Chevy is wonderfully caustic and Seneca is sunshine and has the most amazing lines. The book is funny, sweet, romantic and absolutely freaking terrifying at times. The baddie is so creepy!
Joel Leslie does a fantastic job with the voices and the accents. He can be snarky and hilarious one minute, and scary as heck another.
Great book all round.

Loved it

Had me freaking out and then laughing out loud withing the same sentences. Alice winters has an amazing collection of books all of which I love, they're hilarious and sometimes very sweet and I really can't wait to listen to more. I had trouble liking Jole Leslie's narration when I first came across him but found that by speeding up the narration the aspects I didn't like disappeared

The chemistry

This book was quite a surprise what you expect is not what you get! The thing I liked about it the most was the chemistry between Chevy and Seneca there was parts I couldn’t stop laughing I had tears down my face and my stomach hurt! Definitely recommend this to anybody who likes a laugh with a side of murder and madness

So glad I continued with this!

This is the last of Alice Winters currently available series that I have listened to. My introduction to Alice's work were the insanely funny Hitman books, and I have enjoyed her other series which are also hilariously chaotic romps which never fail to have me laughing throughout. The In the Mind series seemed different, and I wasn't sure if I would like it, so left it until last.

Early on in the book I turned it off, and wasn't sure I was going to turn it back on again. I have no stomach for even the mildest horror, and this scared the s**t out of me! It didn't help that I was listening quite late at night. I had to put on a bit of Hitman to stop feeling scared! The next day I put on my big girl's pants and tried again, and I'm so glad that I did.

Within the Mind is an experience for those not used to books that tend more towards psychological thrillers. At one point I had to download the kindle book because I thought there was a mistake on the audio (there wasn't). It was very disorientating, you didn't know what was reality, what was a memory or what was a dream. I'm impressed that Alice was able to keep track of what was going on, and tied off all the strings neatly at the end.

Chevy and Seneca are a classic Alice Winters pairing. They reminded me of Miles and Havoc from the Demon Magic series. Alice has such a talent for writing stories full of action and humour, while also making clear the love and devotion between two characters without any maudlin sentiment.

Joel Leslie is a favourite narrator for me, and he was perfect for this book. He definitely made the book even more terrifying than it already was! I would have appreciated a bit more sound level control on the recording. There was a part where Joel quickly switched back and forth between whispering and shouting, and I thought he might blow out my eardrums!

Overall, a really good listen, and I'll move on to book two when I'm feeling brave enough!

Just Loved It!! 🥰

The MC’s are brilliant - just love their dynamic.

The storyline is excellent, the psychological aspect alone is so well written.

Joel Leslie narrates this and encapsulates the MC’s expertly as usual. Wouldn’t expect anything less😁

So worth 5🌟’s

What a roller coaster ride

When this book started, I knew there would be something, but like a rollercoaster ride you sit and wait, even of that slow ride up the hill is bland and you think you know what’s coming. What you don’t see is the door at the top of the rollercoaster that you and are thrown into a world that is crazy, scary, funny and not at all predictable. What a book and a great twist.

Weird romp

First time I’ve liked this narrator, he usually grates on me but this time he does a good job with a weird storyline. The horror/humour mix doesn’t work well, fun for a freebie from the included list

Tedious with horrid characters

I wanted to like this, I like the idea, and the story was kind of clever, but it could have been told in about half the time. The characters all seem like awful human beings, irritating at best, sexual harassing at worst.

Title should’ve been in the pants

I was expecting a thriller but the story is mainly about love, attraction and banter about sex, fantasy/horrorish.
The investigation and their skills as detectives fall more in the background right with the gifts the characters have.
This is more for people who like constant funny and sarcastic banter about sex and their relationship, and are OK with borderline horror, less for those who are looking for a gripping thriller.
