Summary
There is something in the forest around L’Ange that is making the animals nervous. In fact, they are running by Tucker Flynn’s windows at all hours of the night and day and no matter what anyone says, it isn’t normal. Of course, neither is Tucker being stuck on the sprawling grounds of the shifter sanctuary in Maine, in the dead of winter. He just wants to go back to Phoenix...if only his alpha would let him.
Tired of his concerns being dismissed, or worse, told that he’s flat-out wrong, Tucker sets out on his own, despite a broken ankle, to find proof of his suspicion - that there’s an apex predator, something far more menacing than any shifter at L’Ange, skulking in the woods behind his cabin.
When everything goes sideways during his search, and he ends up passing out while staring into the face of a giant elk, only to wake up days later on a bed of furs, gazing into the eyes of the most gorgeous man he’s ever seen, the course of Tucker’s life changes in an instant. He has just found his mate. Now all he has to do is accept that he’s not the loser he’s always believed he was.
Funny how quickly everything can shift, like day to knight.

4.5 stars rounding down
I loved this story when it was released in January and I loved it listening to it now, narrated by the incredible Nick J. Russo.
Mary Calmes with stories like this one reminds me why she was one of my most favorite authors once upon a time before the endless, pointless details and clothing took over her stories.

Wow!
I am new to this author but not new to the narrator. I was lucky enough to get a copy through a competition so I want to give an honest review in exchange.
It's amazing! This is part of a series (which I haven't read but definitely will now) I feel like I'd be able to appreciate the minor characters more if I had read them first but the author has expertly written a story that lets you know who everyone is without laying it out for you like some description. It was engaging from the start and the world building, it was stunning. So much depth and so many layers. It was rich with culture (which I love) and the main characters of course. I love how their differences just don't matter because their connection is so strong. Language barriers and culture differences are something I love reading and this author wrote it so faithfully I felt like these were real faiths/cultures of real people. Just beautiful and can't wait to go back and listen to the whole series. Cannot recommend enough!

A bit disappointing
Not quite sure what this book adds to the series. Narration was ok but different from the rest of the series.
