Summary

Jacques McKeown is the most celebrated author of star-pilot fiction in the galaxy. He's rich, famous, and living in luxury, and his universe-wide fanbase eagerly awaits any news of his next book.

There's just one small hitch.

He's not Jacques McKeown.

He's Dashford Pierce, star pilot and con artist, and if only the impatient calls from his publisher were the worst of his problems. There's also the last vestige of the Henderson crime gang, trouble brewing in the retired star-pilot community, and a small matter of somebody trying to kill him.

As his web of lies falls apart and the crosshairs zero in, Pierce has no other option but to take one last adventure. An odyssey to the very edge of known space to finally answer the question that has twisted up his life for five years: Just who is Jacques McKeown?

Endings

It’s rare to find the conclusion to a trilogy that works both as an incredibly engaging self contained story and as a satisfying end to what has been a truly amazing arc, not just for the main character but to the world and themes that bustle about him. There is so much to praise here even setting aside the great performance by the author, but I will only say that the final chapter had me literally stop dead on my feet. I would have clapped had the grin on my face not already been drawing sanity-questioning glances from passers-by. Sublime from start to end and I can’t wait to revisit all three.

An excellent ending to a great trilogy, with a little twist for the fans.

it's great! Channels the spirit of Terry Pratchett, sad that the trilogy is done but looking forward to wherever Yahtzee's new ideas take him.

great ending

This series is one of the few I have listened to more than twice! The final book ties things up and whilst its still a funny and entertaining listen it has a more somber message about AI and how one treats sentience which made the tone a little more serious. Im not complaining I was with the characters all through. But there were a few sad bits, which was moving and supirsing because it was so. Thank you YC, you have taken me on a three book epic journey

Another great book in the series!

Great wit throughout this book. I always look forward to the next installment. (always worth a refresh of the previous episodes so it all makes sense! 😂)

Great ending, sad now.

I’ll be honest, this really loved this trilogy, and now that it has ended, I feel a mixture of satisfaction and sadness. I enjoyed the ride from FOOD to CASH to GOOD, and I will genuinely miss hearing the latest adventure for the first time. Thank you, you plying Bracket.

Best book of a good series

10/10 for the ending, sad it's over. I rarely laugh aloud but this book does it. Thanks.

Usual great humour!

Another fun story in the series. Not sure the plot quite holds together as well as the previous two, but I enjoyed it anyway. Going to try some more titles by Mr Croshaw, for sure.

Great ending, sad it’s over.

Not the strongest book in the series, but I love Yahtzee Croshaw’s writing. I love this series of books. This is a great addition and funny. It made me laugh out loud on several occasions. Thank you for the entertainment, you plying bracket!

Hilarious end to a too short trilogy

Loved it. I really enjoy the world of these novels, and our [anti-]hero. I completely respect Yahtzee's choice to wrap this up as a trilogy, but I'm really sad it's over.
Funny in it's own right, a wonderful and affectionate pastiche of mainstream sci-fi, and performed absolutely perfectly.

A great trilogy wrap up.

Clever, well observered social commentary in the context of a Sci-Fi comedy romp. Laughed my way through the whole book. Great performance reminiscent of Chris Douglas's Ed Rearden but in space. Loved it and will doubt be listened to again on many occasions. Thanks Yahtzee. 👍😁🙏
