Summary

Why Should White Guys Have All the Fun? is the inspiring story of Reginald Lewis: lawyer, Wall Street wizard, philanthropist - and the wealthiest Black man in American history.

When six-year-old Reginald Lewis overheard his grandparents discussing employment discrimination against African Americans, he asked, “Why should white guys have all the fun?" This self-assured child would grow up to become the CEO of Beatrice International and one of the most successful entrepreneurs ever. At the time of his death in 1993, his personal fortune was estimated in excess of $400 million and his vast commercial empire spanned four continents. Despite the notoriety surrounding Lewis's financial coups, little has been written about the life of this remarkable man. Based on Lewis's unfinished autobiography, as well as scores of interviews with family, friends, and colleagues, the book cuts through the myth and media hype to reveal the man behind the legend. What emerges is a vivid portrait of a proud, fiercely determined individual with a razor-sharp tongue - and an intellect to match.

Phenomenal!

One of the most inspiring and motivating books I’ve digested thus far. This will leave you armed and fired up to take over the world - especially as a young indigenous individual at the dawn of their professional life. Reggie Lewis is an elite role model for all walks of life. Highly recommend.

One to re-listen to!

Narration could've been better, some stories of his interactions with people who moved away from Lewis could've been expounded on.

However, maybe it's good we don't know EVERYTHING. And he was a private person.

Overall, well-told story of this lion of black excellence.

I wish he was alive today

I was going through a tough time after covid in the UK closed my company and it never recovered, I was looking for a new opportunity however, reading Reginald’s Story and feeling inspired, and motivated, I have sinced launched my own business in Acquisitions, and use the book for reference, and my team have read the book, all I can say is I want to see it on the screens young black men in the UK and around the world need to see this story. Thank you Reg #GOAT #Blackexcellence

Fantastic story.

Rarely do we get to read about previously unknown black billionaires! The rise to fame, the traps, obstacles, silent racism, and jealousy. Reginald F Lewis was truly amazing, a guiding light in a room full of darkness and negativity. If you enjoy reading about success in the face of adversity, this is your book. It would make a great film.

Not a great business book

If you're looking for a book that details entrepreneurial success this isn't it. It's more about Reginald's life and personal journey so it meanders to and from business, spending far too much time away from business for me.
