Summary

Animals, trees, flowers, our city forbids them all.

Juniper Green lives in a walled city from which nature has been banished, following the outbreak of a deadly man-made disease many years earlier. While most people seem content to live in such a cage, she and her little brother, Bear, have always known about their resistance to the disease and dream of escaping into the wild.

To the one place humans have survived outside of cities. To where their mother is. When scientists discover that the siblings provide the key to fighting the disease, the pair must flee for their lives. As they journey into the unknown, they soon learn that there's cruelty in nature as well as beauty. Will they ever find the home they're searching for?

A soul song

Felt like this book put words to something inside me. Could have let the story go on and on quite happily and didn't want it to conclude. A Jean Auel for the next generation. A salve to the feral souls who yearn for the peace outside the over urbanised and noisy existence cage that we have made for ourselves and our children. A beautiful fusion of whimsy and fairytale-like adventures that crystalise coming of age whilst presenting some very thought provoking perspectives and dilemma. A great book to get debate and discussion going with young people and older alike.

Fantastic read

Loved it from start to end. Reader's voice is so relaxing and does good voices for different characters. The story was thrilling, lovely and sad. Definitely worth the read and have re-listened to it many times.

Really nicely imagined world and characters. Thoughtful storyline. Well performed. Will look out for future work from the author.
