About this listen
An Amazon Charts, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post bestseller, and a Goodreads Choice Award finalist.
In this gorgeously stunning debut, a mysterious child teaches two strangers how to love and trust again.
After the loss of her mother and her own battle with breast cancer, Joanna Teale returns to her graduate research on nesting birds in rural Illinois, determined to prove that her recent hardships have not broken her. She throws herself into her work from dusk to dawn, until her solitary routine is disrupted by the appearance of a mysterious child who shows up at her cabin barefoot and covered in bruises.
The girl calls herself Ursa, and she claims to have been sent from the stars to witness five miracles. With concerns about the child’s home situation, Jo reluctantly agrees to let her stay - just until she learns more about Ursa’s past.
Jo enlists the help of her reclusive neighbor, Gabriel Nash, to solve the mystery of the charming child. But the more time they spend together, the more questions they have. How does a young girl not only read but understand Shakespeare? Why do good things keep happening in her presence? And why aren’t Jo and Gabe checking the missing children’s website anymore?
Though the three have formed an incredible bond, they know difficult choices must be made. As the summer nears an end and Ursa gets closer to her fifth miracle, her dangerous past closes in. When it finally catches up to them, all of their painful secrets will be forced into the open, and their fates will be left to the stars.

A beautiful story
This book moves me to tears, I couldn't put it down. Lauren Ezzos performance of the story was great, she really built the image of the characters and it was easy to distinguish who was who while she talked. I finished this in 4 days and will be checking out Vanderah's other stories.

Heartwarming story
This is a heartwarming story about people and love. It gives insides into living after cancer, living with depression and being traumatised as a child. Enjoyed every minute listening and I can only recommend it. Pulls at your heart strings.

Nice listen
People have mentioned the ‘he said’ ‘she said’ problem with the writing and it is a bit odd that the editor didn’t suggest cuts there. It’s a good premise and the first half of the book is very compelling and visually rich. The last half feels a bit forced, it’s like it slips from literature to airport page turner.
The narrator is excellent given that she has to constantly say ‘he said/she said’ - she has a good voice and the characters are distinct.
It ties up neatly and is pleasant for the most part to listen to and reminded me of the more recent Nora Roberts books, but not as good.

Brilliant, beautiful, deeply moving
I loved this story from start to finish. I thought the characters were wonderful, fabulous narration, great story telling and a very satisfying ending which i must say i wondered how it would be arrived at. Full of love and compassion, dealt with painful subject matter sensitively but not oppressively. Highly recommend.

A beautiful story
A great escape in such uncertain times. Couldn't stop listening. The only criticism was the number of times the story said "said".

Enchanting and poignant …
This book has left me changed … it will remain in my heart forever. Hard to believe it was a debut novel. I am now seeking out the next two books written this author.
Lauren Ezzo also has the most mellifluous voice and her narration of this beautiful and moving book was impeccable.
Highly recommended.
