Summary
What we were...
Sean found love once, with his college roommate, Trevor, and Trevor’s best friend, Charlotte. The missing piece, Sean made it possible for Trevor and Charlotte to find love too. But then Sean left and took the love with him.
What we are...
Now an FBI agent, Sean is back in town, 10 years later, to investigate a murder. A case that pits him against his ex-lovers - Charlotte, a local detective, and Trevor, a literature professor sucked into the Shakespearean mystery. Everyone guards their hearts, but before long, desire sparks anew the feelings that burned hot a decade ago. That still burn true.
What we may be...
Love is within their grasp again, but as the killer escalates, it’s more than just their hearts and futures on the line. Sean, Charlotte, and Trevor will need to work together to solve the case. If they can’t, lives will be lost and pieces of their love gone for good.
What We May Be is a gripping stand-alone romantic mystery, featuring a literary whodunit and three former flames finding their way back to friendship, love, and happily ever after together.

Suspense romance.
A very interesting story line with lots of twists and turns. I don’t usually read anything dark or even suspense but I did enjoy this. I had a hard time keeping up sometimes because I feel like there were a lot of characters to keep up with. I thought I had it figured out but I did not lol. Some heated scenes but not too much. MMF. The narration was great. I love the tone of his voice. I want to find a good bedtime story for him to read to me, it would sooth me to sleep for sure, such a smooth voice. 🎧Audiobook obsession

Thrilling Story, Lovely Romance, & Great Narrator!
Layla Reyne does a lovely job with this romance. A second chance lovers story (x3) with cleverly constructed extenuating circumstances, and fascinating dynamics between the main characters.
I know to count on Ms. Reyne for a unique and creative mystery, and she's crafted a fine one in What We May Be. I'm glad I listened to it as an audiobook, the tension in those final chapters would have kept me up all night if I'd been reading it!
The audio is narrated by Christian Leatherman who does a stunning job! There's a massive array of supporting characters, with a variety of accents, and Mr. Leatherman has set the bar pretty high for my expectations of his future performances. And let's hope there are many more to come!

Crime and romance!
Charlie, Trevor and Sean were together and happy 10 yrs ago. When Sean left without a word everything crumbled. Now Charlotte has lost her dad and brother, and Sean comes back. Nut is he back for good? Meanwhile, there’s a serial killer on the loose and is somehow connected to the trio. There’s a perfect amount of suspense and romance for a throuple who struggles to come back together but when they do, they’re stronger than ever. It is a great listen!

Wonderful balance of crime and romance
This was a perfect blend of suspenseful crime story and super hot romance. Neither aspect dominated, the two were completely balanced and connected. It was a great choice to make Sean and Charlotte FBI and local detective so there was the natural job tension on top of the romantic history and I always enjoy academic characters so was delighted to see Trevor as a literature prof. The removal and return of Sean who is the catalyst for their romantic relationship gave the author a chance to explore interesting personal dynamics among the characters. The suspense and mystery of the crime plot thoroughly pleased this mystery/crime fan. Christian Leatherman did a wonderful job bringing all the varied characters to life. I look forward to more audiobook performances from him in the future.

Shakespeare’s Tragedies
Ménage books can often be a challenge – balancing the triad with the action going on around them. Making sure the relationship is important, but no the be-all and end-all. Sex is hot, but there needs to be substance behind both the characters and the plot. This book fits that fine balance.
Sean is introduced first. He comes back to Hanover for the funeral of two law enforcement officers. He sees the two loves from college – Trevor and Charlotte. The three had been together while in college, and all had looked good until Sean’s life was upended at graduation. He made the decision to leave and through miscommunication, Trevor and Charlie, as she’s known, never knew why. So, hurt feelings. Trevor and Charlie couldn’t make it work as a couple, so they split and moved on with their lives. Sean’s return has the three coming together again, but a happy ending looks out of reach.
Then a murder takes place, and Sean comes to investigate. Charlie is law enforcement for the town, so they’re thrown together. And although Trevor isn’t a cop, he becomes involved as his co-workers are being murdered. It’s up to the team to unravel the mystery before the final tragedy takes shape. I have to say, I loved how Shakespeare was woven into the story – having studied all four plays, I was able to follow along. Not a problem if you haven’t, Ms. Reyne gives you enough to work with.
I enjoyed the book, especially the dynamics between the three leads. Everything gets wrapped up after the climax and I was satisfied. I’ll also give a shout out to Christian Leatherman. I haven’t listened to him before, but I’ll be happy to pick him up again anytime.

Never Saw That Coming!!
MMF, Poly, Second Chance, Suspense, Romance. Well written story with a plot that has so many twists and turns you don't know what's going to happen next. Great characters finally reunited due to a horrific incident. Thoroughly enjoyed their story, binge worthy listen/read. Great narration by Christian Leatherman.

Simply fantastic!
I am just WOW over this audiobook. I came for the relationship and the excitement of an MMF (not just MFM) relationship, but I truly stayed for the story. It was so intense and engaging. There were so many leads, so many suspects, so many secrets, and so many red herrings. So many times I was sure I had a suspect, then new information changed my mind, Back and forth, back and forth. The murders kept me enthralled, but so did the story of Sean, Trevor, and Charlie. Their story was as complex as the killings, and they all had secrets that impacted the relationship. I was surprised when I found out who was at the root of the separations.
The narrator was new to me and did an excellent job voicing the characters and their emotions.

Gripping!
This was my first Layla Reyne book, and I was taken aback by how much I enjoyed her writing and style. What We May Be, is well-plotted and gripping with highly appealing and complex characters. I really enjoyed the dynamics between Sean, Trevor, and Charlie; they had history, friendship, an intense connection, and electrifying chemistry. F. The storyline is unpredictable, thrilling, and suspenseful, shrouded in mystery and a criminal investigation of a murderer. My attention was definitely captured, and I'm looking forward to Reyne's next release.
Christian Leatherman is a fantastic storyteller. She portrayed the nuances of the characters' personalities, emotions, and connections flawlessly, breathing life into them. What We May Be is a gripping listen, one I'll highly recommend.

What We May Be
I really enjoyed this book. Shawn has to come back home after ten years for a funeral. He runs into the Two people he never stopped loving. They reconnect just to be possibly torn apart again. When a case brings them back together a month later. This was a murder mystery romance. Christian Leatherman did a fantastic job narrating.

I love a good MMF book
I loved What We May Be, I am a fan of MMF books and this one was great. The dynamics between Sean, Charlie and Trevor was so good, I loved that it was such an equal triad. I like a little mystery in stories (I only read romantic mysteries) and this one was pretty good. Their romance was hot, sweet and super sexy. The story was fast-paced and page-turning. I look forward to reading more about them hopefully in future stories.
I really liked the narrator, Christian Leatherman. He was nice to listen to with whatever voice he did. This audio is proof that an MMF needs to be narrated by a man (or by all 3 voices separately) I can’t listen to a woman do men’s voice, but that’s me. I liked his pace of reading and the accents and voices were very easy to differentiate. I would definitely recommend this audio.
