Summary

Lorelei King reads Susan Coolidge's classic tale about feisty Katy and her adventures. Twelve-year-old Katy lives with her father, Aunt Izzy, and five younger brothers and sisters in the little town of Burnet. Tall, tomboyish and with a head full of plans and dreams, she just can't help getting into scrapes - she loses her homework, is late for school and gets her siblings in trouble when she persuades them to stay up past bedtime playing noisy games.

But she always means well - and when sweet, angelic Cousin Helen comes to visit, Katy is inspired by her serenity and kindness. When a terrible accident occurs and Katy's life changes more than she could ever have imagined, she will need all her courage and patience to put her good intentions into practice.

Queen Loreli

Reading this for a course on the invention of the American girl. It passed the time on a dog walk but would be better in full. Narrator is one of the best.

Dull...

I thought this was a classic but perhaps the interesting bits were cut out? Dreary dull and none of us really cared what Katy did in the end.

Deserves minus one stars

If you want the story of what Katy did, don’t listen to this. I read the original last at least a decade ago and even though some details pass me by, within the first minute I was checking to see if I had accidentally skipped over story sections somehow… what the HECK were they thinking, Should be illegal to butcher a classic like this

Heavily abridged - do not buy

This audiobook is so heavily abridged it loses all character of the original. Nowhere does it say that this is an abridged version.

Will be returning.

Not Everything Katy Did.

Some books you can get away with abridging. What Katy Did is not one of them. The original is a perfect length as is and every detail was put in there for a reason. the anicdote that inspired the title has been removed as have many key moments and beautiful scenes, so much so that the whole thing feels completely rushed-through and there's no time to really capture the essence of the story. Please get the full length reading if possible. The full book is fantastic and will keep the whole family desperate to know what happens next.

Heavily abridged

Very shortened and rendered awful. Why? The original is not exactly massive/too hard to read.
