About this listen

The essence of meditation is not something we do; rather, it is simply to be, fully present and aligned with life in the moment. This is the central teaching of Eckhart Tolle’s What Is Meditation? In this audio session, Eckhart helps us transcend our beliefs and ideas about meditation—including the tendency to turn the practice into a means to an end—in order to realize directly our formless nature as being that is primary to any doing.

What Is Meditation? explores:

  • What your sitting practice can—and cannot—do for you.
  • Acknowledging the “pulling power” of thoughts.
  • Engaging with the reality of consciousness itself.
  • The arising of “space consciousness”—and how this opens us to joy, creativity, and peace.
  • Honoring life by saying yes to what is.

Whether you’ve struggled with meditation or you’re taking an interest in it for the first time, What Is Meditation? gives us a new understanding of why we practice—and an inspirational guide for making life itself our daily meditation.

Another cracker from Tolle

This really is an exemplar talk on how to put across the essence of a subject. However, I have seen one or two less positive reviews and my guess is that in this particular talk Eckhart uses a great deal of his signature style of using often comical facial expressions and whole body acting to illustrate what he is talking about; hence there is a lot of audience reaction (mainly laughing) at (apparently) nothing. It will probably help if you have previously watched some videos of his teaching BEFORE listening to this audiobook as it will give you some clues as to what is probably happening at these points in the audio. For example, I would guess at various points he is acting out ‘a person taking themselves very seriously’ whilst not actually speaking - the audience laugh in response/at the recognition of an aspect of their own behaviour, but if you are listening only to the audio it could seem baffling.

Tolle at his best. Truly inspiring ...

Met my expectation big time. Worth every penny. It makes you think out of the box and he gives even examples how this can be applied.

Fully recommended

This is an excellent one hour talk by Tolle which encapsulates his entire teachings. Highly recommended. It’s all here delivered with his light humour.

Loved all the other books by him, but not this one

Very disappointing, really love so much of Eckharts other material but not this one. It did not seem to related to the title at all.
