About this listen
The gripping new psychological thriller from the author of Do Me No Harm. For fans of C. L. Taylor and Clare Mackintosh.
Two women, two secrets, one murder...
If someone took away your perfect life, how far would you go to get it back?
Ellen's family is her world. So when her husband leaves her for another woman, she is almost destroyed. But not quite, because Ellen has a plan, a way to make those who have hurt her suffer.
Leila is the other woman. She finally has everything she ever wanted. But Leila's brother has come back into her life, raking up a past that needs to stay buried. One of them will pay for their actions with their life, but which one?

Kept Me Guessing
Fast paced and dark at times, this book had me gripped . Dysfunctional families intertwine with devastating results.

Too far fetched.
I felt the whole storyline was a bit weak with far too many occasions where it stretched imagination/ plausabity. It probably wasn't helped by poor narration where I felt the narrator's accent began to pall very quickly.

Pleasing Symmetry
A very good thriller, quite a dramatic opening. We follow the story from the perspectives of two separate women; Leila, Tom's new woman who has recently moved into Tom's family home. On the face of it she is professional, secure in herself, and knows what she wants, and Ellen, Tom's displaced wife who is not so assertive, has some mental issues, and is trying to look out for her children, grand daughter and father.
As the book progresses, we find there is more to both of the women than we first thought. Both are revealed as a little devious, but which of them will turn out to be the good guy?
Other reviewers have pointed out the references to sex and animal cruelty. This is a thriller and we expect to read about human beings being attacked and murdered, so why do readers make a fuss about an animal or two!
It's an engaging read. There's not too much jumping between time periods so the plot isn't too hard to follow. Also the sort of ending that carefully wraps up all the issues.
I'd recommend this book and will be looking out for more by Julie Corbin.

Thriller ??? Not much...
The writ in is nice, fluid and rich but this isn't a thriller. It's an interesting story, but the thriller part is lacking.

Original and compelling!
I wasn't at all sure about this book in the early chapters, but once the characters were fleshed out, it got going and how! The two main protagonists, both women, are very well drawn. One is particularly complex, one has hidden depths. The story is original, keeping the listener/reader on their toes. There are several unexpected events and the ending is satisfying. A warning though, there is some pretty gruesome animal abuse here. Once I had a flavour of it, I fast forwarded those moments.
I have not heard this narrator previously. Her performance here is excellent and I will look out for her in the future.

Really well narrated, one of the best yet and makes such a difference. Good story with the odd twist. Nice easy listening.

Captivating
Well and thoughtfully written and outstandingly performed. Author somehow has the listener despise Layla and pity her in equal measure. I thoroughly enjoyed this

Not for animal lovers
I enjoyed this book till I got to the ending. What ending?.I had to look to see if i had missed something, but no it could have done with another few pages
The narration was good, as was the story but if you are squeamish about animal cruelty. You may need to skip forward in some places.

Enjoyable enough
I did enjoy this book, mostly. The story was good and there was enough twists to keep me listening. I loved the stories of Ellen and Leila but didn’t like the explicit sex scenes and animal torture, which I felt were tasteless and unnecessary. The narration was fabulous! As I Scot, I love books set in my home country and read by a Scottish narrator. This book’s narration was faultless. The ending of the book was however disappointing and left me feeling unsatisfied. I feel it would have been better if the book had ended 10 minutes before it did. However, all in all it was a good listen and I would like to read more my this author,
