Book 1: Where He Leads

Compared to an arranged marriage to the odious Bernard Regent, a prairie schooner on the Oregon Trail doesn't seem like such a bad trade to Amethyst Kent.

When desperate Martha Davis reveals her need for a mother's helper on the trail, Ami decides to up and leave the pampered life she's always known for a land of freedom. But trail life is hardly a tea party, and Ami must draw from the deepest wells of her faith to survive. With the sunset always before her, and Shiloh Talon, a handsome trail scout, guiding the way, she might just make it through.

Thaddeus dreams of becoming a pastor, though his affluent family expects him to follow in his banker father's footsteps.

Thaddeus and Ellie meet every morning on the trail to sing hymns and pray. Soon they realize they want to be together forever. But the trail is harsh, and a mysterious drifter may threaten their love. Can their faith see them through to God's perfect plan?

On the Oregon trail

This was an enjoyable three book compilation about the Oregon trail.
The first book joins a wagon company setting out from Missouri and book two continues the story from Independence Rock. I found these the most interesting books of the compilation as you hear about the hardships and hazards that people young and old, were enduring on a trip that took many months.
The third book is about the Founder family, who had previously travelled the Oregon trail and had settled in Cottage Grove and follows two of the sisters Fern and Iris on their separate trips to Emerald city in Oregon. I’m afraid this book didn’t hold my attention and I would have much preferred to have heard more about the Davis family from book two and how they fared as new settlers
I enjoyed listening to the narrator as she made the characters sound very real and it was easy to identify which character was speaking. I would certainly listen to this narrator again
Living in the UK I didn’t previously know much about the history of the Oregon trail and since listening to this audiobook book I have been looking at maps to follow the trails the characters would have taken. I was also pleasantly surprised to find a kindle version of the book “Days on the road: Crossing the plains in 1865” by Sarah Raymond Herndon which is mentioned in the author’s notes at the start of the audiobook
