Summary

Marriage to an elf is complicated...especially bringing him home to meet the family.

Princess Elspeth of Escarland married the elf prince and achieved peace between the elves and her human people. But after a recent ambush by the trolls, it is clear the trolls are trying to start a war between the elves and humans once again. To keep their peoples at peace, Essie and Farrendel travel to meet Essie’s family and negotiate a stronger alliance.

Yet in Escarland, not everyone is happy with peace. Traitors lurk in both Escarland and Tarenhiel, and it will be up to Essie and Farrendel to flush them out. The consequences of failure might be more personal and deadly than they can imagine.

Traitor's, hair and war on the horizon.

This book had me laughing so much, the humourous banter was absolutely perfect. The slow burn romance between Essie and Farrendel is more natural and believable, even to the point of making you swoon. I really love the two families and how they interact with each other, both are very different and have a very interesting cultural background. The storyline is really well written, and you hear bits of backstory over the course of the series. Tara Grayce describes the world in so much detail, that if you close your eyes you can picture it. She's a great up and coming author who brought an amazing story to life, once you start reading this series you won't want to put it down.

I was hooked! Farrendel, how I had missed you!

Having waited a bit between the first book and this one, it took me a while to get back into the rhythm of the story, but once I did, I was completely hooked! Farrendel, how I had missed you! I loved getting to see his experience with human culture, along with his interactions with Essie's family (so cute and fun!). There's certainly more to their story (more growth, more trust, more swoony moments 💕) and I loved all of it. The intrigue was a nice touch, and it was certainly interesting to see how the politics worked as well (a Parliament with monarchy case). I have to warn potential readers though, that you'd better have the next one ready because this one ends in a cliffhanger. #INeedsToKnowWhatHappensNext

As for the narrator, she did great with all the voices, and I loved the continuity with Farrendel and Essie's. Granted, there were times where I needed to pause and absorb the scene because I was getting the names mixed up, but that one's on me. However, there were other times (a handful throughout the book perhaps) where some expressions or nuances didn't seem to match the voice of the character. Still, the last part notwithstanding, I really enjoyed this audiobook and all the funny, swoony, and moving moments it delivered.

Overall, a truly enjoyable audio experience, and a great continuation to an addictive series!! ~ 5 stars
