About this listen
Determination drives them all. But can these powerful beings save the Sun Emperor before blood rains from the Heavens?
Jin is devastated. With her awful arranged marriage impending and her father fatally cursed, the goddess of beauty has little to gain from sitting around and worrying. So she ignores her siblings' cynical whispers and sets out with her husband-to-be to search for a cure.
Xiao numbs his pain with every swig of the bottle. But when his future father-in-law takes ill, the hopeless alcoholic knows it's his last chance to prove himself a suitable mate. Vowing to keep his betrothed safe as he accompanies her, he's shocked when their first discovery is a tomb...with a living occupant.
Bai is literally as old as dirt. As the First Immortal, he shouldered the responsibility of guarding the key to the Underworld. But when a beautiful goddess and her intended demand to unlock the dangerous realm and retrieve a potent remedy, he seizes the opportunity to woo the woman to his side.
Charmed by the arrogant man, Jin allows him to join their quest and fixes the key's treacherous flaw. But Xiao isn't buying any of his long-lived sweet talk and runs off to drown his jealousy in drink...while Bai holds tight to secrets that threaten to jeopardize everyone's future. Can these reluctant allies defeat an unknown enemy, or is their quest doomed to end in disaster?

Loved This One
Bai the warrior barer of the sunlight sword. Bai is one of a lot of immortals who killed 300 mortals. There’s so many worlds in this book and a lot of teleportation. The prologue was huge and was 36 minutes. This gives you a huge insight into the past and the back story.
Chapter 1 then shoots forward to the present day. The detail is absolutely beautiful as the narrator reads the words you capture the colours, descriptions of the characters perfectly. The names of all the characters did take time to get used to.
The narration was amazing and the different voices made me laugh and took time to get used to but once I knew who’s voice was who it flowed really well.
This book is full of sea dragons, sea palaces and a God of pleasure. There’s a lot to keep up with including a Thief, sex and how the relationships of each character come together and form. Especially when you start understanding about the marriages and how the families have been over each millennia.
This book is really deep. You travel to the Underworld in an attempt of saving a life. Each immortal is a Great warrior. The Descriptions are very vivid, beautiful and magical throughout.
You soon know and understand they’re searching for the Key to the underworld. As you get further Secrets start to come to life. You learn to understand the Colours unite to become more powerful.
I could write so much about this it was brilliant.

FLEW THROUGH IT!
This was just an action packed book! It definitely took me a while for used to listening to an audiobook again but once I was settled I flew through this book! I loved how each character had their own goals and throughout the book the others came together and helped each other out whilst still figuring out their own problems. Nanami was my favourite character! I loved her development through the book and how she changed her ways from thieving. The details in the description made it amazing to imagine living in the world, the sun palace seemed like such a nice place to visit! I would fully recommend this to anyone who loves a mixture of Asian mythology with adventure and romance.

Great start to the series
If you like fantasy and Asian mythology you will absolutely love Vows of Gold and Laughter it has all that and more. The characters are likeable and the setting in my mind was so beautiful, it was described very well.
Jin Goddess of Beauty and Xiao God of Pleasure (yes, he likes to please) is celebrating their betrothal, the moment the vows are made the Sun Emperor is struck down with a death curse.
Jin and Xiao need to break the curse but it won’t be easy, and in this book, we follow their journey to retrieve the cure.
I enjoyed the storyline a lot. I did get confused with the names and who was who because some of the names sounded very similar in the audiobook. However, that did not detract me.
A great debut and I am excited to read more from the author.

Incredible book!
First of all, Nanami and Jin are everything to me and I would die for them.
Now my declaration of love is out of the way, I found this book to be an incredible listen (I have the audiobook version) and the narrator did an amazing job at making all of the characters come to life. The story itself flowed nicely from start to finish and kept me engaged throughout, and the world building was absolutely phenomenal. The way the beautiful palaces were described was something else, but the author also had me tasting, yes TASTING, the food that was being described in the book. That’s talent.
The author described the immortal gods, their journeys, and the way they all interacted with each other in this book was incredible. The amount of characters that the author brought to life in this book is something else, honestly I have no idea how @edithpawlicki managed to keep up with all of these characters and make sure they all fit together in the story. I found the magic and how it works to be quite unique in this book, the idea that it’s all based on colours and what colours will respond to each Deity in the book (including elemental and dark magic).
There’s a cliff hanger ending that I never saw coming and I’m still reeling from, I need the next book now please. Right now. I need to know what happens in the next book, especially with all the amazing Deities and their magic at play. WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN?!
If you love Asian mythology (or any kind of mythology really), adult fantasy or magic then you need to pick up a copy of this book. Thank you so much to @lovebookstours and the author for gifting me an audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
