About this listen
When one of the world's most gifted witches becomes a vampire, you'd be wise to heed this advice: Don't f--k with her.
I'm Hailey Bradbury, hedge witch and vampire.
My sire was staked moments after I was turned.
As a youngling, the Voodoo Queen took me in. She taught me her art.
I've been working with the new Mistress of the Vampire Council.
She trained me in the ways of vampirism, the path of the night.
Witchcraft plus voodoo and vampirism equals what I call bloodwitchery.
Most witches won't mess with the power latent in blood.
It's dark. It's dangerous. But if you can master it...
You can harness the power of life itself.

Adventurous and Interesting!
This is my first book by Theophilus Monroe and, while it wasn't something I would naturally select to read or listen to, it was most certainly fascinating. I was intrigued by the world that was created and how the story was constructed in layers, blending bits from Hailey's past with her present. It was very fitting as the first book in the series because Hailey's history is carefully incorporated into the current plot without feeling disjointed or in any way boring but in a way that sets the stage for future books. As a character I really enjoyed her sassy spirit and creative solutions to potentially sticky situations.
Kelley Hazen adds a lot of dimension to her narration which I thoroughly enjoyed. Her storytelling style resembles a performance. Each character has his or her own flair which Kelley manages to capture in such a way as to make the audience forget that there is only one narrator.
I look forward to listening to the rest of the series. It promises to be loads of fun!

Great start
Excellent as usual. Was great weaving of Haileys back story with a few years on the timeliness as well. Loved that Mol was back causing trouble and Anna believed and Mercy were included. Looking forward to the rest of series.
