Summary

A Rogue Traders Novel

As the Indomitus Crusade begins, Roboute Guilliman tasks the Davamir Compact to find a route across the Great Rift.

Listen to it because

Witness the deadly politics and incredible wealth of the Imperium's privateers, as three powerful rogue trader dynasties put their considerable assets to work for the greatest crusade in millennia.

The story

Proud Lamertine. Fierce Helvintr. Cunning Radrexxus.

Since the halcyon days of the Great Crusade, these noble rogue trader dynasties have plied the void in the Emperor’s name, answering to whomsoever sits as the king of the Davamir Compact. There has been profit and adventure and abundance in these times… Yet now the galaxy is changed, divided by the birth of the Great Rift. As plans are drawn up for the most immense crusade imaginable, the Emperor’s reborn son demands that the Compact seek a way across the Rift.

When tragedy and betrayal threaten all their endeavours, it is the Lamertine heir, Erastus, who must rise to the fore—to guide the disparate forces of the Compact in service to their sacred mission, to avenge the wounds done to them by hidden hands, and to reveal the darkest secrets threatening the Imperium’s dreams of unity…

Call this a fine wine. ( no spoiler review)

Why? The longer you listern the better it gets. I have to admit, at first ..it took a while to get into this book, but the longer you stick with it, you get more and more connected to the characters and the plot.

Gangster, blue blood, semi-honourable, pirates of the 40k universe.... What more can you ask for?

I thought the narrator fit the book, Joe shire did well!

Brilliant audio book. well worth the credits. Come get some!

Ok…

A little disjointed. Story pace is odd. Could have done a lot more with it. Ending meh.

Long Live The King!

Void King is a perfect example of Marc at his best. Filled with intrigue, politics, culture and an excellent dash of action and deception! I am hopefully looking forward to seeing a sequel to this in the future!

Slow but enjoyable

The narrator when just narrating has an effect that makes him sound like a mechanicus fish man.

story got progressively better

Good story over all. Nice break from other titles. I felt the Audio was poor at times, I like the narrators voice however I felt the audio was distorted or had an effect on it.

Not bad overall, with strong story issues

Interesting story and I'm happy to have listened to it - always a pleasure to find a non-SM story in the grimdark, especially about rogue traders.
(spoiler warning) The story had some issues. The lead character was too naive. I also found the overstated importance of rogue trader heirs - who at the same time are sent again and again into the most dangerous missions imaginable - quite laughable actually. The patriarchs/matriarchs of the dynasties were suddenly so overcaring and worried every time it was too late...
Also during the course of this book the flagships of several dynasties - ships that had served for thousands of years - are destroyed. If it was so easy and it happened so often then these flagships would never have served for so long!
Finally, the inclusion of GSC as the plot twist was tedious and unwarranted. There is too much of them everywhere as if Black Library was forcing its authors to fit Genestealer cultist into every book it can.

Rouge trader novel.

Interesting story with some typical 40k characters, hopefully this story arc plays and plays, but the sound quality seems muffled.

A Great (surprise) Listen!

When I got this I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I actually did by the end. The story was very good and the narrator was great and really suited the story and characters. I hope they bring out a second book, which the ending does seem to leave things wide open for it to be continued.
