Summary

The shocking true story of a bizarre kidnapping and the victims' re-victimization by the justice system.

In March 2015, Denise Huskins and her boyfriend, Aaron Quinn, awoke from a sound sleep into a nightmare. Armed men bound and drugged them, then abducted Denise. Warned not to call the police or Denise would be killed, Aaron agonized about what to do. Finally he put his trust in law enforcement and dialed 911. But instead of searching for Denise, the police accused Aaron of her murder. His story, they told him, was just unbelievable. When Denise was released alive, the police turned their fire on her, dubbing her the “real-life ‘Gone Girl’” who had faked her own kidnapping.

In Victim F, Aaron and Denise recount the horrific ordeal that almost cost them everything. Like too many victims of sexual violence, they were dismissed, disbelieved, and dragged through the mud. With no one to rely on except each other, they took on the victim blaming, harassment, misogyny, and abuse of power running rife in the criminal justice system. Their story is, in the end, a love story, but one that sheds necessary light on sexual assault and the abuse by law enforcement that all too frequently compounds crime victims’ suffering.

Excellent

I found out about this book via True Crime Profile podcast.
It is a gripping true story and the narration is excellent. I would highly recommend it.

Speechless

The resilience of this couple is beyond belief. What a travesty. I hope one day justice is served to everyone who played a role.

A fascinating, shocking and bizarre story

This is a fascinating, shocking and bizarre story. I had heard a short version of it on the Criminal podcast, and wanted to know the full story. I was not disappointed - what Denise and Aaron went through was so awful, and made even worse by the way it was handled by Police. Compelling and well narrated.

Great read but shocking treatment

I loved the book, was sometimes painful to hear the way they both were treated, which just seemed to never end. So glad they are both recovering the other side and are having some kind of happy ending

Meh

The underlying story is horrific and such a shame, but this was terribly written and terribly narrated.
I found myself shouting at the dumb decisions made, and the waffle that was added to beef this book out. I wanted the story, and half the stuff they write about are just not integral to the story at all. I found myself not caring when she started waffling on about her grandfather’s will. I’m not sure I’ll finish this.

Shocking book

First of all I would like to thank Denise and Aaron to share their stories. They are truly brave and I hope they live happy lives together with their children.

It is truly shocking, terrifying and disgusting how the Vajello P.D. behaved themselves. I have nothing but loathing for them. They should all be fired and replaced by competent and empathic police officers.

I believe there should be a national victim rights act. I hope some politician reads or listen to this book and take up the cause.
