About this listen
Become a bartender at the Vixen’s Den, they said.
The owner isn’t really a vampire, they said.
It’ll be fun, they said.
And suddenly, I’m neck deep in a world I’ve never really believed in, no matter what my crazy Great Aunt Mabel used to say.
Seriously, I have more than enough drama in my life already, without adding an irresistibly mesmerizing nightclub owner to the mix. My boss - a man with a penchant for trouble and the echo of tragedy lurking behind his dark gaze.
My new coworkers appear to be universally insane. My deadbeat ex is in trouble with a capital T, and if history is any indication, he’ll do his best to drag my son and me right along with him. In other news, I’m also being hounded by creditors who seem to think you can make money appear in someone’s bank account by threatening them over the phone.
(Though to be fair, if that approach worked, I’d be all for it. Spoiler alert: It doesn’t.)
To top it all off, while my back was turned, I’ve somehow become a chess piece in a cold war between supernatural factions. Just because magic supposedly runs in my family doesn’t mean I know the first thing about Fae or demons or vampires or any of this craziness.
But it looks like I’m gonna have to learn. Because now they’re coming after the thing I hold most dear - my son. And I’ll do anything to get him back.
Watch out, paranormal world.
Hell hath no fury like a mother’s wrath.

Excellent
I received this free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Having loved the Last Vampire books I was so happy when I found out about this book.
It was a great listen with old characters popping up and new nasty Fae being pains in the ass 😂

Vonnie's a Gem
Having loved The Last Vampire series I was so eager to listen to this one, would it be as good? Would it disappoint? Well for me at least it was as good and did not disappoint. I have read some reviews saying nothing was resolved and that it ended in a cliffhanger, well yes it did, but then so did every book but the last one in the series this one follows, The Last Vampire.
This series has some of the same characters we have already met but this time the story is all about Guthrie one of the most intriguing characters from the previous series. His life has been far from easy, he was born in the 1920s fell in love and married. His wife developed cancer and in an attempt to save her he made a deal the demon Nigelous. But you can't trust a demon and he lost her anyway but he was by then demon bound. Guthrie aka Leonides owns a club called The Vixen's Den and it's there that he met Vonnie.
Vonnie's a single mother, struggling to earn enough money to support herself and her fourteen-year-old son. As if that isn't hard enough Richard, her baby daddy (they were together very briefly when she was 15 - she tells us "we had sex one time and I got pregnant") has borrowed money from the Russian Mob and they have come to her to pay it off. In an attempt to earn more she signs on to be an escort, her first assignment is Leonides the owner of the Vixen's Den but the evening doesn't go the way she expects.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, she ends up being offered a job to tend bar at the club, something she is much better suited to than sex work. The story is well written, and the characters are so well-drawn you feel you know them. There was also an unexpected treat as we get to meet Zorah and Rans again!
But there is a major cliff hanger and nothing is solved, more questions are posed, but I'm hooked, and intrigued and will have to wait for the next book to hopefully get some answers.
I just loved the narration of this book, it was so very well done by Gwendolyn Druyor who brought these wonderful characters to life. She narrated The Last Vampire Series so I suppose for her it was like revisiting old friends.
I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.

Doesn’t feel like a complete story, weird narrator choice
First of all, the narration is somewhat annoying, having a voice similar to Mary Steenburgen. The world is creative enough, but nothing really gets resolved or uncovered in this book and it ends on a cliff hanger, so it doesn’t feel like like a whole story arc, just the beginning of a story, the set up - a type is serialisation in novels I don’t like. A book should be worth reading on it’s own, not just if you read all 3 or 5 etc
