About this listen

On June 5, 1983, Henry Lee Lucas was arrested for the unauthorised possession of a handgun. The police believed that he was linked to the disappearance of two females, so they used the opportunity to apply pressure and encourage a confession. After four days in custody, Lucas confessed to killing the two women.

What transpired in the following months was both peculiar and fascinating. Lucas confessed to murdering, raping, and mutilating hundreds more women with his friend and lover, Ottis Toole, whilst under the influence of a satanic cult.

But there were hidden depths to the revelations. Upon further inspection, investigators found that Lucas confessed to crimes that directly contradicted others, casting doubt over what was fact and fiction.

Lucas had the answers. Could they uncover the truth?

Trust Me is a dramatic and gripping account of one of the most bizarre and gruesome true crime stories in American history. Ryan Green’s riveting narrative draws the listener into the real-live horror experienced by the victims and has all the elements of a classic thriller.

Caution: This book contains descriptive accounts of abuse and violence. If you are especially sensitive to this material, it might be advisable not to listen to this book.

Shocking

Thanks to Ryan Green for giving me a free audiobook in return for an honest review.
I love Ryan Green's books. he has this great way of humanising even the most vile killers.

The story of Henry Lee Lucas was really well told. We went through the story of his childhood that really assisted the nature v nurture argument for psychopaths and criminals.

The author of this story was great. He kept a slow, steady pace and his voice was easy to listen to, despite some quite disturbing facts.

Green really delves into the thoughts and feelings of all affected by the crimes he writes about, from family to victims to the criminals themselves.

I've not heard of Henry Lee Lucas before so it really interested to find out more about him I wasn't disappointed with Ryan Green's book and really look forward to finding out more about Ottis Toole and more than that Green may write about.

I definitely recommend this to any true crime fan.

Ryan Green Offer's another insight

I've listened to many books by Ryan and narrated by Steve, these two are one of my favourites to come back to. Steve narrates so well that it adds to Ryan's writing and really draws you into the story being told. I knew nothing about Henry Lee Lucas, and I was drawn into this and finished it in one sitting (granted, it is a shorter story). It was well written and flowed wonderfully.

Absolutely Brilliant!

As usual I loved this book by Ryan Green. He has a very empathic look at the protagonist, explaining not only the crimes committed, but also the particular problem, be it mental, emotional, social, or any combination, going as far as examining whether the origin is nature or nurture.
I would recommend this audible to anyone interested in this genre. Steve White is an excellent narrator, and really compliments Ryan in bringing this book
Although what Henry Lee Lucas did was beyond awful, I couldn't help but empathise with him in part. Not least over WHY he made the confessions he did. Who was REALLY to blame for that?
Thanks Ryan for another excellent work!

One Of The Best

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I think this is possibly one of the best of Ryan Green’s true crime books. I struggle to get into Green’s writing style of writing from the perspective of the killers, because it feels more like a story than true crime, but I did really get into this one, and I found it quite engaging. Green doesn’t go into a terrific amount of detail, but it does make you want to learn more. I did have to Wikipedia this case after I’d finished reading so that I could know more.

The narrator was brilliant, and I really appreciated his narration style.

Killers who wrecked many lives

Gruesome murders, deviant behaviour, sexual desire, this story is filled with them. In a sense this book tells the story of two killers who met up, joined together, killed more, parted and killed again. Whether together or separate they were prolific.
Ryan Green has told their story through thorough research, as all his books on true crime are written.

Amazing & Unbelievable

After listening to quite a few of Ryan Green audiobooks this is the one that terrified me the most.
How many are out there that we have no idea about? Can it be your next door neighbor?
The research that Green does before each of his books is amazing, but what’s more amazing is how he fills in the missing gaps and his best talent is the way he packages it all, put it on a paper with words that everyone can easily understand, that is a truly amazing.
One last thing, after listening to others of Green audiobooks I was always wondering if the killer was born to a loving family would it have changed anything?
This question doubled itself in this audiobook.

I fully recommend this audiobook without reservations because I believe that people should understand their environment and the things that lurking in this vicious world.

Great

I love this author, I've enjoyed every book of his that I have listened too, and this one didn't disappoint.

As always I am slightly disturbed by the way the author seems to get right inside the minds of his subjects, and even more disturbed at the acts that some people can carry out.
