Summary
Tourist season is swinging into high gear in Miami. So are the activities of a bizarre terrorist group determined to keep the hapless "snowbirds" away. Armed with bombs, weed, and jumbled credos, they move toward their grand target, the Orange Bowl Parade, with plans to bring Miami and its tourist trade to a halt.
The cast, which includes a deranged journalist, a visionary ex-jock, and a lovesick detective, is just the kind of company Carl Hiaasen's fans love to keep. Narrator George Wilson's performance lures each quirky character out into the full light of the Florida sun. With over half a million copies in print, this is one of Hiaasen's most popular works.

Sublime
I buy lots of audiobooks, I sometimes don't get around to listening to them for ages!
When I get a Carl Hiaasen, the headphones go straight on 😊
I have never been disappointed.

Laugh out loud
Even though this book is over 30 years old the humour is fresh and the eco messages even more so. I’ve just rediscovered Hiaasen after a long drought and not regretting it.

Witty and clever tale
Powerful and funny way to get the importance of environmental issues across without any preaching.

Hiaasen never misses
This is the first time I cried at the end of a Carl Hiaasen novel. It was worth it.

Great characters, story, and narration
I’m a big fan of Hiaasen and have read or listened to most of them by now and this is as good as the others. All the similar beats are there, the dry humour, mystery, and environmental messages all delivered with great character by the narrator.

It's ok.
not as good as the skink series and can be a bit confusing at times.

The usual high quality yarn from Carl H.
Solid storyline well delivered by the narrator. That's it really but " ya know " a 15 word Minnium means I gotta waffle a little.

DNF - language is extremely dated
I’ve previously enjoyed other books by Carl Hiaasen so was pleased to spot this in the Plus Catalogue.
Unfortunately the liberal use of racial and homophobic slurs was too much and after two hours I’ve had to stop listening.
I appreciate that stories are of their time and something written in the 80s will be of that context and I will usually take that into consideration, but hearing the narrator say the N word and other derogatory terms at least a half dozen times (just in the two hours I listened) made my skin crawl.

Disappointed
I’m sorry I've read and listened to a lot of Carl’s books, but making a hero, even an ecologist out of Hypocritical Charlie Manson type, meant I could not connect or sympathies with most of the characters

Disappointing
I love most of Carl Hiaasen's books - unfortunately this one had too much implausible dialogue (particularly with the psychiatrist) so I gave up early. I believe this was his first solo book, which may explain it. All the other books I've read/listened to have been hugely enjoyable.
