Summary

From autumn 1941 to the first months of 1942, the war continued to affect the lives of the Adams and Somers families.

It was not so much the war, however, as a succession of tragic domestic events that brought a sad and lonely little girl called Phoebe into the care of Susie and Sammy Adams, reminding them of the entry of Rosie as a child into the lives of Boots and Emily. Much needed to be done to cure little Phoebe of her sadness, and it proved a difficult time for Susie and Sammy.

Further shadows fell when news came that Tim was a prisoner of war, and that Japan had attacked the American fleet in Pearl Harbour and British bases in the Far East.

But Boots' French-born daughter, Eloise, had her dearest wish come true when she married Colonel Lucas of the Commandos in Alexandria.

Another great story.

So many twists and turns for the Adams family. Hopefully Phoebe will be very happy with her new family. Heart wrenching.

Another brilliant book

It's lovely to get a little bit of the war years and the author does this beautifully.

Reliving emotional moments

It’s easy to get lost in this story, The characters seem so real, It will be hard moving on to other narrators. This morning as I lay in the dark waiting for the dawn I almost fell apart when little Phoebe called out for her parents. I thought of children throughout the world in a similar situation.
I wonder if the author found it easy to end this series. Maybe the character’s voices continued - or the muse moved on….

Another excellent saga in the takes of the Adams family

Love this series of books. Nice easy listening. I listen these wearing headphones whilst doing housework etc. There’s no complicated plot to worry about. Excellent narration as always

Another sweet story, narrated by Annie A.

The stories remind me so much of how people behaved and spoke during this era.
We would find it corney etc. but people did actually behave and talk like this!!
Some families were also lucky not to have any casualties and some had terrible ones.
So the author is not unrealistic in this sense some were lucky.
These books are just simply written with
Characters that are endearing and interesting.
I would recommend to a reader who understands the era and can relate to; because if you can it will make the stories thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable.
We have to remember, this isn’t real life, this is the author’s imagination so we have to allow!!
Thank to Annie Aldington the narrator. She brings the characters to life!

heatt warming story from the pen of Mary Jane Staples. My family come from the Walworth described in the story, I spent many happt days there. The author conjures up a story with such warmrh, she transports you to that time and place so well.
