Summary
Let Sandi Toksvig guide you on an eclectic meander through the calendar, illuminating neglected corners of history to tell tales of the fascinating figures you didn't learn about at school. From popes who gave birth during papal processions, to the inventor of Scrabble, to pioneering civil rights activist Ida B. Wells, who refused to give up her seat on a train decades before Rosa Parks was born. As witty and entertaining as it is instructive, this is an essential companion to each day of the year.

Fascinating read!
I loved this! I don't know if Sandi reads her reviews but i have to say this was wonderful, Thank you sandi. I had to listen to it twice because the depth of information that Sandi has researched is phenomenal. I had no idea how many unsung female hero's had shaped our world and their accomplishments had been either minimalised or simply just swept under the carpet by male domination.
I have learned so much from this, Thank you for bringing these wonderful women back to life. I shall be taking a look at some of these amazing woman. I have researched a few of these amazing women in the past but shamefully their were so many i didn't know.
I love factual read's/audio's and i loved listening to Sandi's Narration. I relate to her sense of humour and parts of her book made me chuckle. ( The bit about Boris !!😂 great work Sandi!) The balance of humour does not over power the serious issue's in which she talks about. It is important that women know there history! I have so much more to learn. Thank you .

A bit of fun
I bought this out of curiosity. I have always liked Sandi Toksvig both on T.V. and radio. This book is a great listen. Light hearted, amusing and very entertaining. Full of the lesser known facts of history. I knew there was an Argentinian Dictator buried in Southampton but was not aware of his history and how he ended up in Hampshire quite a revelation. Its worth a listen.

Enjoyable!
Really enjoyable listen! With lots of historical gaps filled in, which were missing due women's stories getting left out.

Possibly the most important book, you will ever read.
Not only did I listen to this book 3 times- I slowed the narrative speed to capture more detail…..made notes of the women’s stories that stopped me in my tracks (even pausing this audible to listen to Harriet Jacobs’ harrowing but beautiful history) & I have vowed to buy this book in paperback form, to share with every woman & girl that I love AND my sons.

a refreshing change
I bought this because it's written by Sandi Toksvig and I love all things Sandi. I didn't really realise what the content was going to be but am extremely glad I listened. Full of Sandi's unique wit and wisdom, she takes us on a historical tour of many fascinating women that we all should know about. This is a book that everyone should read, it is at times sad, regretful and quietly furious at the misdeeds suffered by women throughout time but is also uplifting and laugh out loud funny. A real winner for me.

Fascinating little known micro biographies
Collection of brief biographies of women who deserve to be better known. Encourages the listener to find out more. Sadly also reminds us how often the contribution of women is overlooked or even claimed by men.

educative, amusing and inspiring
Sandi has opened my eyes to a world of women and their unsung contribution over time to every walk of life. I feel angry that I knew so little if so many of these women. I am inspired to write.
