About this listen
Book one in an interconnected series of STANDALONES.
Beyond the realm of gods, two cities stand at the brink of despair, and a dark destiny awaits Death's newest Maiden.
Long ago, Requiem was plagued by war and abandoned by the gods but Death saved the suffering people, giving each soul a hundred years of immortality. With that grace, he also sent two Maidens. One of Life, for healing and comfort, and one of Death, the only person in the world with the ability to kill.
Generations later, the Life Maiden is missing and Princess Deyanira is nothing more than a trained weapon. A hunter. A murderer wrenched into Death's dark court to have the name of her next victim seared onto her palm.
She is the enemy of this land. But, when she's given the chance to bring peace through marriage and finally show her father's kingdom her worth, she is viciously tricked into marrying the wrong man, ruining the future of the damaged realm. Her only hope to give something back to the world is to find the missing Life Maiden.
Now, eternally bound to her enemy and dragged into the dark burlesque show her new husband is bound to, she must fight to keep herself free. And her heart. Especially when she becomes the hunted.

"A deliciously sinful experience centered around a show of life and death at the hands of the Maiden. Fans of Kerri Maniscalcos Kingdom of the Wicked and Stephanie Garbers Caraval will love this story of the Death Maidens one chance to defy Death himself, combined with a searing romance that adds an irresistible layer of passion." - Jessica, @books_and_crafts

Fantastic performance of a really good book
While I loved the story, and the performance of the narrators was truly outstanding, without a doubt my favourite part was the music. Wholeheartedly recommend! 💗

Lovely experience. Great production and story.
This was a lovely listen.
Jacci Prior and Teddy Hamilton did an excellent job with the narration. This was my first audiobook with Jacci, will definitely look for more of her work. Teddy is one of my favourite narrators, he could read me an instruction manual and I’m sure I’d love it.
The music added a nice ambiance, all around a great experience.
Excited to read more of Miranda Lyn’s work, and looking forward to the next book in this series to come out.

outstanding performance of a great story.
this was a very good book made brilliant by the performances. I also loved the addition of the cello music throughout, I wish more audio books did this as it really helped me connect with the story. While this is a stand alone book it is told in 3 very distinct parts. I had no way of knowing during part one where this book was going to lead me and while some of the surprises along the way were a little predictable (especially if you're a regular reader of this genre) overall this story was original, fresh and enthralling. the only reason I've given 4 stars instead of 5 is that there despite this being a heafty book there were a couple of parts that felt rushed or glossed over and I didn't feel like they were given the time or explanation they deserved. I think there were several good stopping points that could have made this book a duet in order to provide the space to flesh out those glossed over parts. I can't wait for the next book though as there are many questions left unanswered!

Duet audio absolutely MADE this book!
The delicious banter and tension brought to life with duet narration made this book SOOO good! The talent to differentiate the various characters shows true skills to the narrators. I loved this!

Felt a bit like a fever dream
Great narrators but I found myself getting lost in the actual story - things being uncovered that made no sense & the shifting of scenes was hard to follow. The first smutty scene was fine, but I was bored enough that I paused when it started and finished to two other books... and the other smutty scenes felt kind of shoe-horned in. I may reread before the next comes out to see if I was just distracted and am being unfair, but first pass was a flop

Skip this one. It is so confusing.
If you are looking for romance, then skip this one. It is more about child/father or family in generel. And it's depressing, and you will not like the ending.
