About this listen
Peri, a wealthy Turkish housewife, is on her way to a dinner party at a seaside mansion in Istanbul when a beggar snatches her handbag. As she wrestles to get it back, a photograph falls to the ground - an old Polaroid of three young women and their university professor. A relic from a past - and a love - Peri had tried desperately to forget. The photograph takes Peri back to Oxford University, as an 18-year-old sent abroad for the first time and to her dazzling, rebellious professor and his life-changing course on God. It also takes her to her home with her two best friends, Shirin and Mona, and their arguments about Islam and femininity and, finally, to the scandal that tore them all apart.

Mixed feelings
I am impressed with the writer's knowledge and style, but I was ambivalent about the plot. The characterization of Peri's parents was excellent as was the depiction of general dysfunctionality of families regardless of culture.
Too much energy went into arguing the existence or not of God, making me think that the writer was flaunting her intellectual prowess. Too little time went into clarifying why the main character betrayed her hero when she was otherwise portrayed as highly princlipled. Although everyone is allowed to be flawed, I think Peri ended up too flawed and for that reason I lost interest in her. The ending was very flat and unsatisfying.
The reader was faultless, good accents and did not intrude into the story.

Brilliant!
One of the best books I've read/listened to in a long time! Beautiful, eye-opening, the kind of book you want to return to over and over again. Excellent narrator, too! (although I could have done without the accents)

Another wonderful story.
I really enjoyed this story, the ending for me was disappointing. i guess it's one to discuss- and maybe that was the reason behind it.
Well written.

Not sure
Not sure if I enjoyed this or not. Very easy to listen to story and well developed characters but really didn’t like the ending. It annoyed me.

Beautifully written & performed book
What did you like most about Three Daughters of Eve?
I loved it. I learned about modern Turkey, I enjoyed the parts set in the UK, and I just loved letting the narrative wash over me.
What did you like best about this story?
It was absorbing, the characters seemed very authentic (as far as I can judge - certainly the Oxbridge ones were). I like to learn about other cultures in the novels that I read. The narrative was well paced and structured.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I can't see that being feasible for anyone with a busy life! I wouldn't want to even if it were - it's a book to allow to sink into you over a couple of weeks.

Brilliant Listen
I heard the author being interviewed on television. I had never heard of her but she sounded intriguing, so I thought I would give one of her books a try. I decided on Three Daughters of Eve and it certainly did not disappoint. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Fascinating book but not as good as Honour
I bought this book after reading 'Honour' and being completely mesmerised by the beauty of the writing.
This book is similar in style but somehow lighter in message. The narrator, too, was rather more difficult to listen to.
The story finished abruptly and unexpectedly and I was unprepared, yet when compared to most contemporary fiction, this still comes out a winner with its timely subjects, likeable characters and thought-provoking social situations.
I'd read anything by this author simply for the beauty of the language.

SHE IS BRILLIANT
I absolutely loved this book. I love all of Elif Shafaq's books. But this one, it was just another level of brilliant. Reading this pushed me to be more open to "others", something we so desperately need in the world right now. But it also gave me insight into her life (I believe it did, maybe it didn't) and why she is exiled from her own country. she spoke the truth, she is kind and non judgemental and pushes people who believe themselves to be superior to others uncomfortable, challenges their patriachary and their prejudice views, which they hold as beliefs.
I also went to a Q&A in Queens Park (London) where I heard her speak... it was a privilege.
A review from a fan who becomes a better Muslim every time she reads her books.

wonderful narration
The diversity and ease of the narrators accents really enabled the listener to distinguish individual characters personalities. Whilst jumping back and forth it was not distracting likecsome can be and helped to build the tension of the story unfolding. lovely analysis of the complex nature of religion, god and beliefs through the characters.
