About this listen

A dinner party thrown by theatre actor Sir Charles Cartwright at his home in Cornwall ends in tragedy…

Thirteen guests arrived at dinner at the actor’s house. It was to be a particularly unlucky evening for the mild-mannered Reverend Stephen Babbington, who choked on his cocktail, went into convulsions and died.

But when his martini glass was sent for chemical analysis, there was no trace of poison – just as Poirot had predicted. Even more troubling for the great detective, there was absolutely no motive…

One of Christie's Best!

So clever, so funny and with a splash of romance (even though he's old enough to be her father). This is one of Christie's best mysteries, in terms of plot, characters and shocking denouement. Plus Poirot gives away the fact that he annoys people on purpose, so they underestimate him. He is the original Columbo - minus the wrinkled raincoat. Written in 1934, this classic is timeless.

a play on the page disguised a drama on the audible stage.

A perfect disception. One of the best about which I can not say more without spoiling it other listeners. A treat awaits any who do not know this novel.

Never tired of listening

Surprisingly there is no much of Poirot in the story but still it is work of A. Christie to wich one I like to come back.

Good but not my fave

Least fave Poirot so far, not enough Poirot, I felt like I was waiting forever for him to join the story. I guessed the murderer v quickly too. But wonderfully written, and Hugh Fraser is as fabulous as ever.

a chilling murder

like Jane Eyre reworked for a murder mystery, seemingly frothy and light, but with such a dark heart, maybe one of the worst villains but Poirot makes easy work of it

Lesser known book but just as good!

Didn’t really did know much about this book but I’m so glad I bought it. Good characters with a decent twist at the end. Hugh Fraser is a brilliant narrator, well worth a credit.
