Summary
The new thrilling instalment of John Connolly's popular Charlie Parker series.
It is spring, and the mummified body of a young Jewish woman is discovered buried in the Maine woods. It is clear that she gave birth shortly before her death.
But there is no sign of a baby.
Private detective Charlie Parker is engaged by the lawyer Moxie Castin to shadow the police investigation and find the infant, but Parker is not the only searcher. Charlie Parker is the always the tops, but bring Angel and Louie back more into the story.

So intricate, mysterious and touching and yet also so rewarding! I am feeling sad that I’m closer to the end of (re-listening to) the series that is so close to my heart in mystery mastery, emotion, wit and laughter. Thank you John Connolly

Connolly's done it again.
Yet another awesome installment in the Charlie Parker story. I dont know where to begin, or where to end in my review. Just know, it kept me awake, and it was almost impossible to find a suitable place to pause the book. You've been warned...
The Woman in the Woods also shows a unexpected 'human' side to Louis, including a few 'lump in the throat' moments. (Perhaps almost a tear.)
As expected, a fantastic performance by Jeff Harding. I'm so impatient and want for the next book already!

The same high standard as always
As always this is an incredible novel with the return of the usual favourite characters and the introduction of new devilish opponents for parker. Again an amazing performance by Jeff harding.

Excellent writing as usual
Thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook, I felt the story was a little bit incomplete and didn’t tie up all loose ends (hence 4 stars rather than 5).

Great!
John Connolly does it again. Where other series can become tired and stale, Charlie Parker & co continue to grow and develop. I love the dark overtones & the continuing development of Sam’s character & ‘gift’. Likewise I like that Jennifer is becoming more involved & able to sort out those issues on the ‘other side’ that her father can’t quite get to. Meanwhile Louis and Angel continue to entertain & ensure that Charlie doesn’t lose his lighter side or laconic cynicism.

Above average Parker story; lackluster narration
I love the Parker series, and this is one of the better ones. Standard themes and plot for anyone that's a fan of the series, but the villains are above average, the side plots come back to the whole better than in some previous books and the supernatural stuff does the "is it/isn't it" tightrope that's the hallmark of Connolly's work.
The narrator sucks, tho. I'm sorry, I feel awful writing it, but it's just no good. All the dialogue is read with the same intonation (and sounds just like the "three weeks earlier" guy from the purge episode of Rick and Morty - I couldn't unhear it so why should you?). All female characters have the same patronising adenoidal whine. Most male characters sound the same, with the only deviations being "high blood pressure" or "thousand a day smoker." Louis is... bad. The only exception was Quayle who was absolutely perfect, so good that I wondered if he was done on a second take. And the lyrical passages of natural description, which are often the best thing in these books, are delivered as if bored. Sorry dude, I hope you never read this, but I don't think this is the series you should be reading aloud.
