Summary

Damaris Chance's unhappy past has turned her off the idea of marriage forever. But her guardian, Lady Beatrice Davenham, convinces her to make her coming out anyway - and have a season of carefree, uncomplicated fun.

When Damaris finds herself trapped in a compromising situation with the handsome rake Freddy Monkton-Coombes, she has no choice but to agree to wed him - as long as it's in name only. Her new husband seems to accept her terms, but Freddy has a plan of his own: To seduce his reluctant winter bride.

Will Damaris' secrets destroy her chance at true happiness? Or can Freddy help her cast off the shackles of the past, and yield to delicious temptation?

A Gentle Story

The Hero and Heroine are both dealing with a past that has burdened them.
Their mutual solution, turns out to be what neither expected or thought possible.
The story is humorous, gentle and realistic.
The secondary characters round the tale off.

Absolutely delightful

Another winner from Anne Gracie. I so love her gentle stories and marvellous characters. Alison Larkin’s superb narration just adds to the joy of the book. Highly recommended.

A rare good sequel

This is a sequel with a plot line which isn't always easy to guess. It takes twist and turns until the end. If I could add anything I would have wished for more story of the 2 lead characters.

Charming

Lovely amusing story well narrated BUT an overnight coach journey from Devon to London? The horses must have been jet propelled; it takes us over four hours by car.

Perfect

What a perfect listen! The story is light and entertaining, but with rounded characters with baggage, that is slowly unpacked for us. And the narrator! All I can say is ~ perfect ! ! !

Very good second installement

Where does The Winter Bride rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Great easy listen, even better than the first one (exept for the narration). Something to enjoy.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Winter Bride?

The last day of the visit to his parents house.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

While I am happy to report the narrator did pronounce Phaeton (the carriage) right this time round (in contrast to the first book), she did not for ratafià (the drink). Her problems with the voices of male characters were more pronounced this time round.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There was a misunderstading in the book that most authors would have drawn out, but this author lets characters go to the bottomn of things when they get suspicious and I like that very much.

Any additional comments?

Maybe some people would need a warning that the book deals with traumatic things that happened to the characters. Everybody is different and I would still call it a very lighthearted book. It is nice to have people have a happy ending that did not have it always easy. I do not mind to have to suspend my disbelief for a feel good story, and you have to do in this book, but again, that is totally fine in my opinion.

Another disappointment

This is the second audio book I have listened to in this series but have given up half way through because of the narrator.
I have listened to many audio books where it is difficult to realise only one person created the characters.
A waste of a credit
