Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of The Waiting Hours by Ellie Dean, read by Julie Maisey.

Slapton Sands, 1943. War has not been kind to Carol Porter. It took her husband and baby, and with them her heart. At last she's found some peace, working as a land girl at Coombe Farm. But Carol's sanctuary, the whole local area in fact, is about to be disrupted.

When Pauline Reilly hears Carol's news she's worried for her little sister. But as rumours about Slapton Sands reach Cliffehaven, Pauline can't help be more concerned for her only surviving son. And despite her sister-in-law Peggy's best efforts, nothing soothes Pauline's fears.

As Carol prepares to face the impending upheaval alone her beloved mother, Dolly, swoops in to Slapton, and packing up Carol's life presents unexpected opportunities for them both: Carol looks to her future while Dolly confronts a ghost from her past, and they both have a chance to mend their broken hearts.

House keeping

Wow what a busy book this time and a little confusing at first but all becomes clear as many different stories were pulled together and tidied up .

Gripping, emotional and fun. You soon get very involved with the story and have to play it to the end.

Gone back a year

I’m sure this book and the one before are in the wrong order. As this is set a year before the last.
A good listen and brings the wider family together. Just needs to be read before the previous one

The Waiting Hours

Well worth the wait, enjoy this book immensely And love the fact that it was narrated by Julie Maisey who manages to bring each character to life whether they are old or new characters.
Ellie Dean's research is also top notch, I had already read a book by Ken Small called The Forgotten Dead which is about Exercise tiger, and made this book for me, even more fascinating to listen to,yet at times so very sad especially for those families who were evacuated and the sad loss of the Service men and woman.
I myself cannot begin to know what war feels like, but thanks to Ellie Dean's books you can understand a little. I just love hearing about Peggy and her family and cannot wait for the next book to come out. Which I think is out in January 2018 I just hope with all my heart it will be narrated by Julie Maisey.Excellent book Ellie Dean
but maybe this book should be read or listened to before Ellie Dean's previous book.🐭

The waiting disapointment

I am a no1 beachview fan and always happily anticipate s new book. Julie Maisey is a top rated reader and her voice is normaly evocative and imagnative which helps to bring the characters to life. Sadly this new book drags, fails to follow on from the excellent last book and speaks of characters who in the last book were POWs. beachview is secondary and few of the well known have a voice. it speaks of an important part of WW2 history but i found it overlong and sadly dragging.so so disppointing.
