Summary

Though we have come a long way this crippling, debilitating, often terminal illness is still shockingly misunderstood. This is my story that you have asked me to tell. Those who suffer from depression will understand and those who don't will hopefully learn how to.

This is the book that Denise Welch wished for as she found herself exhausted and defeated after yet another visit from The Unwelcome Visitor - the name she gives to the episodes of clinical depression she has suffered from over the past 30 years.

For so many, understanding their mental health is a leap into the unknown, and they are left grappling with the physical and emotional fallout without any guidance or someone to tell them 'you're not alone and you can live a happy and successful life alongside your illness'. Within this audiobook Denise reveals her ongoing journey from breakdowns to breakthroughs and through self-destruction to self-acceptance.

Typically candid, Denise brings her trademark humour and honesty to a conversation that we urgently need to have, and shows listeners it is brave and courageous to be open and vulnerable, and you too can take back control.

Thank you for your Help!

This book is a must read for anyone suffering or who knows anyone suffering. It was like reading about myself about my own thoughts and feelings and even some explanation on how others around me may be feeling.
I have taken many things from this book to help myself in future.

Thank you Denise Welch

An inspirational Read

I listened to this book for a couple of hours at a time. The book helped me to understand some of my experiences of depression over the past 25 years. I also took comfort that my depression is mild & although I have blips like Denise I know it will be okay!

great insight into living & coping with depression

Loved it. It has really helped me understand what a family member of mine is going through. Maybe after reading listening to Denise I can finally give them the help and encouragement to get through each time the uninvited visitor arrives at their door. Thank you so much for writing the book. ❤️

Understanding clinical depression

What a brilliant listen. So honest so educational so brave. I have always suffered from anxiety but not clinical depression but have witnessed this with friends. I now for the first time have more understanding of the illness and what I can do for anyone who has it. Like most people I have always looked for reasons but now know that no one really knows where it comes from. At last this listener has a greater understanding. Thank you Denise . I wish everyone could read or listen to this.

Heartbreaking

This book has opened my eyes to the true horrors of clinical depression. Denise is a gritty down to earth northern woman and I found I could easily relate to her. This honest, no frills account of her illness has made me less judgemental of people and helped me truly understand how clinical depression can wreck a person’s life. I think Denise’s story will help those going through similar experiences.

So true to life

Denise told her story honestly, truthfully and, at times, with humour. I have suffered with depression, anxiety and stress, for the last few years, and I recognised so much in ''The Unwelcome Visitor'. Thank you Denise, when you suffer with depression etc, you do think 'is it just me', you've shown me that anyone can suffer these terrible feelings, mostly, in silence, and we must talk about depression and reduce the stigma attached.

Just wow!!!

I started listening this morning on my run and I have just finished it, all in a day because I couldn't put it down.

Denise's, open and honest account of her unwelcome visitor which was no doubt hard to write, will help so many people. I recommend this to anyone who is struggling with depression and I am about to gift a copy to someone I hope it can help. Thank you Denise xxx
