About this listen
In this short tale from Stuart MacBride, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Dead of Winter and the Logan McRae series, sometimes a meal ends with unjust desserts…
"A story you can’t get out of your head. . . Stuart delivers every single time."—Steve Cavanagh
"A banquet of blood-drenched laughs and enough action to fuel the whole John Wick series."—Ian Rankin
"If you like your steak bloody and your stories even bloodier, The Tasting Menu will tickle your palate . . ."—Peter James
Three friends go on a foodie road trip to the Scottish Highlands and Islands to celebrate their pending retirement, expecting stunning scenery, great food, fine wines, and a chance to reminisce about the good old days. When they somehow secure a reservation at a remote and extremely exclusive restaurant set on a private island in Loch Broom, they know they’re in for a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience.
The question is: what is on the menu? Because all is not as it seems. One of the three friends is a killer, one is a liar, and one will do whatever it takes to survive…

Bitesize treat
Deliciously dark tale that’s a full novel in miniature.
The author knows we know what’s going on and throws in a few nice surprises - and it’s incredibly funny in places.
Rich lilting narration by David Rintoul, too. Gorgeous.

"A nice relaxing weekend away."
Two friends - a retiring police chief and a waning in popularity thriller writer - agree to a proposed break with a third, a former but still wealthy criminal. It sounds idyllic, expenses paid: a gourmet hotel set on an island out of touch with the rest of the country, although the trip gets off to a bad start when, instead of the anticipated luxury yacht to take them there, they have to share a smelly fishng boat with two other guests, old ladies, to cross over to the island. But once there it all seems deliciously old fashioned, including a stage coach ride from docks to the wood panelled hotel complete with a dining room with separated booths so each party can have privacy. The food is amazing, the alcoholic drinks sublime.
But in the morning, one of their party is missing, taken ill they are told. And something doesn't seem quite right ...
Each chapter is introduced as if it is the description of the tasting menu course which follows.
Only short at around three hours, the story has a slightly slow start but soon turns into a rip roaring menu of murder and mayhem. Pretty bloody but all farce-like fun (if you like that sort of thing)! Yes, a bit predictable but much here to enjoy not least the performance by David Rintoul, and that it comes free to the reader via the Audible Plus programme

Not Impressed
I am amazed that Stuart MacBride wrote this. Thank goodness it was only a short story and very cheap. Definately not his usually excellent writing. I just thought it was rubbish.

Brilliant.
I loved this. Both the story and the narration. I spent the whole time wishing it was longer. Brilliant.

More satirical than laugh out loud
Ok for a quick listen. Satirical in relation to fine dining and murder mystery but know laugh out loud moments for me

Rubbish
Dreadful writing, story and delivery. Not much more to say. Worst ever, never to be repeated.
