About this listen

Discover the strange legends, tales and history of Wales.

Did the Welsh sail across the Atlantic in the 12th century?

Was King Arthur Welsh?

Included are stories on ghosts - both real and fake - and the legend of King Arthur. Welsh animal lore, customs, monsters, and music are also examined. One of the strangest villages in the world gets a chapter to itself, as do witches, miners, and druids.

The book is written in a personal, lighthearted style, with geographical references to help identify the places. Although the stories are intended to entertain as much as educate, the historical facts are accurate.

Hopefully, you will come away with a different view on Wales - and a smile on your face.

It would be brilliant if it didn’t skip and repeat

I was really enjoying this and then it repeated and skipped, skipped and repeated, but I persevered. Only for it to happen again. One of the chapters (about Oaks and Carmarthen) was an hour long. I thought I was going mad but no. I gave up in the end end due to the disruption which didn’t make it an easy listen. I see I’m not the only one to mention this so I hope Audible sort it out.

If it wasn’t for the annoying jumping, skipping and repeating this would be a great book to listen to - full of Welsh myths and folklore, yarns and tangents.

Great listen

Great retelling of classic stories, it's nice to listen to an audio book about Wales where the narrator can actually pronounce the Welsh names and places correctly!

Although there are a few parts that repeat themselves or skip it's overall definitely worth a listen

Great story, terrible production.

As an Englishman who’s pretty enamoured with Wales and it’s history, culture and legends, I have to appreciate a concise audiobook detailing many of these stories and legends.
Narrator is very good and fittingly Welsh himself so there’s no pronunciation errors as far as I can tell.

What I cannot compliment is the awful production. The chapter about trees and Merlin repeats itself several times, the chapter about lakes seems to just cut off into the next chapter, and there’s one chapter where the narration fades into narration and I’m guessing it skips over some sentences perhaps.
I don’t know if the guy or gal who put this on Audible, just wanted to do these things like repeating chapters several times to make the book look longer than it actually is, but it comes off as pretty pathetic.

Have a listen if you must, if reading and turning pages really isn’t doable for you, but if I could turn back time, I’d buy the actual book over this audiobook.

Terribly edited but a great story

Wow, what a great story however chapter 23 is repeated multiple times. I feel like no one listed in full after an edit was completed. Bad cuts and repeats everywhere.

Be warned, it skips

I love these books but it's a shame the Welsh one skips and repeats.
