About this listen
What happens when a science-fiction writer takes a wrong turn? David Gerrold writes to his editor about his bizarre peripatetic journey through the Northwest wilderness and his accidental encounter with one of the legendary "green people" and his even more bizarre trek to uncover the truth behind the mystery. Originally published in two parts in the January 2007 and the April 2007 issues of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, this novelette reveals the author's keen eye for detail as well as his mordant sense of humor. A deliciously vicious journey! Warning: There are terrible puns in this tale.

Wonder and Reason in the American Wilds
There’s something quite marvellous about David Gerrold’s stories which managed to make even the most apparently mundane seem gripping. These particular tales involve what can happen when you wander off the beaten track in the wild of America, and what happens when you try to get answers.
The stories work, remarkably well, with some brilliant, observational humour knitting together with a cracking, if undemanding, story. As usual, the narrator has managed to capture the author’s voice perfectly.
Thoroughly recommended as a great way to pass an afternoon.

"Start at the red X and move north."
Written in the first person, author David Gerrold recounts in two parts first his strange encounter then an attempted follow up bike with two aquaintances to.attempt to discover the truth behind his earlier experiences. A fine writer, the reader is taken on a journey of discovery both internal and through terrain previously unexplored by himself. Not fast paced But fascinating. And immersive.
Daniel Lenz again narrates, as he has all of the Gerrold books I have read so far. And he here becomes truly the voice of the author. A good performance, easy on the ear and with a natural modulation that easily retains attention. The
The combination of the two stories is not in the spine chilling category but is a very enjoyable look at perception and, possibly, something more. A definite recommendation.
