Summary

In 1897, a young and untested cavalry lieutenant named Winston Churchill, more than a little keen to see action, got himself attached as a press correspondent to an expeditionary force newly formed to restore order on the North West Frontier of India. His dispatches to the London Daily Telegraph were later expanded into this audiobook.

A very young Churchill

I quite enjoy all texts of Mr Churchill and this one has the quality of him not yet being very recognised as a reporter/author and therefore somewhat more brief and to the point than he is in, say, The Boer War. The story sheds light on the remote colonial campaigns on the Northwest frontier and yet of course uncannily relevant in our time, with conflicts revisited in the very same areas. As with other books I do not always agree with Mr Jerrom insofar that I imagine that Mr Churchill intended other emphasis or intonation of his texts.

Far too long and drawn out

Could have been explained in literally 1/10 of the time!-
So far not convinced that Sir Winston Churchill is an author!..
