About this listen

A serious illness destroyed Helen Keller's sight and hearing before she reached the age of two. At seven, she was introduced to Ann Sullivan, the beloved teacher and friend who helped Helen to make contact with her world. Through sheer determination and resolve, Helen learned to speak, read, and write, and prepared herself for entry into prep school by the age of 16. She later enrolled at Radcliffe and graduated with honors. Her motto: "There are no handicaps, only challenges."(P)2000 Blackstone Audiobooks Historical Literature & Fiction Women

Review by Tevin Gongo

Really inspiring... This could be the full review. What can you add after reading a book written by a woman who was blind and deaf?

Who has never complained life is too hard, too unfair, too complicated... obviously that kind of appreciation is subjective and personal to his/her author but if a woman manages to accomplish so much despite starting a life with so many disadvantages, who is really entitled to give up without a proper fight.
I can only recommend this book to anyone complaining that life is hard, unfair...

Loved it

This is an incredibly story of a southern girl, born before disability was widely understood and worked with. Helen Keller was an incredibly person and this book is the story of how she was enabled to engage with this world and then able to become a fully functioning person within society, more than most, and her spirit and love comes across so clearly. A little dated because, well because it is but a refreshing happy read!
