When the owner of a sanctuary is killed in a cage, can a witch who can speak to animals solve the murder and find the missing phoenix?
When the owner of an animal sanctuary is found dead inside one of the cages, Jolene teams up with her hot cop boyfriend and his lie-sniffing dog to catch the killer. But with rumors that the victim axed her millionaire husband, a second body, and a missing phoenix thrown in the mix, it’s turning into a zoo of a case.
On top of everything, the animals are giving her the silent treatment, and Jolene fears the sanctuary is hiding a dark secret.
Will this cursed witch be able to find the fire bird before it combusts, and bring the truth of the murders to light? Or will Jolene get burned as the whole thing goes up in flames?

This series needs squawking about
I just love this series. This is book seven in this fantastic series and if you are only just joining us were have you been? Take my advice and work your way through them all, trust me you won't be disappointed. I was sad when the author finished her spells and caramels series and didn't think she would be able to top it, I was wrong. She has created another great group of characters that you can't help but fall in love with, especially the snarky relationship between Jolene and Daisy the talking police dog, it just cracks me up. The mystery was fun and I like that we are heading to a confrontation with Ludolf Caterwaul but also sad as that will be the last in the series.
Jolene and Heidi are undercover as waitress at party held for the legendary Phoenix. They are trying to find out what Ludolf, the mob boss of the shifters, is up to. Until the owner of the sanctuary that houses the Phoenix is found dead and the bird is missing. Jolene as consult to the police and a cursed shifter that has given her the ability to talk to all animals will have her work cut out for her with a sanctuary full of exotic animals to question but even she is having a few problems understanding them. Has one of Ludolf potions rob her of her abilities? And just why was he at the party in the first place?
I love the narrator, you can tell she really gives her all to her readings with all the different noises she uses and the story just comes alive under her careful care.
