About this listen

Upon returning to Valia after his journey to Caelford and the Unclaimed Lands, Corin Cadence is confronted with a familiar foe—his own father.

While his strength has vastly increased since his last encounter with Magnus Cadence, Corin knows that he’ll need every trick at his disposal—and maybe a few new ones—if he wants to survive a duel with his father intact.

While Corin struggles with his family, his friends must face a second year at Lorian Heights with new classes, familiar but new chancellor, and deadly new enemies both on and off the campus. But school itself is the least of their worries. As the year progresses, the nation of Valia faces new travails at the emergence of a mysterious faction targeting attuned commoners and foreigners.

Casualties mount as Corin’s allies seek to unmask the leadership of this deadly order—and discover a threat that they cannot hope to face and emerge unscathed.

The Silence of Unworthy Gods is the fourth book in the Arcane Ascension series, a progression fantasy epic that mixes dungeon crawling and magical school content. This book also references events from the Weapons & Wielders series up to Book three, a connected series that takes place several years earlier with some overlapping cast members.

good, with flaws

very good story, great plot and magic system, it does, however feel like I'm being beat over the head with some political views. things like racism and inequality are important, but the author does seem to use it as a plot tool like a sledge hammer, and a badly aimed one at that. I come for fiction to get away from societal issues for the most part. and it's fine, if not important to reflect on some of these things, but the story, especially towards the last half feels like it's trying to lecture you unprovoked.

lack of plot

wait for book 5

this is a middle book, and mainly a training montage. Really wish I'd waited.

I few things happen in this book, but Andrew went a little far with the monologues and prep. and not far enough with scenes involving characters interacting.

Think you need to come straight from books 1-3 and into 4-5 for this book to feel good.

Good for half a story

I continue to love the series, world and story but this seemed like half a book, won't stop me from listening to it again though.

another great book in the series that kept me gripped from start to finish. I just hope we don't have to wait too long for the next installment

I enjoy it but...

half the book is about things the characters are not allowed to talk about or not willing to discuss. We're 4 books in and that's starting to become tedious

A great story, engaging and well told. I had difficulty putting the book down between sessions.

Finally

After the previous and painful installment in the series which was pure filler I wasn't sure whether I would pick this book up or let the series fade from memory, safe to say that I caved and it is also safe to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this one. sadly the previous book has plenty of relevance to the story so I cannot say 'skip it', this one may be worth the suffering. leaves me with hope for the series to follow, if only they could up the rate they were produced!
