About this listen
The no. 1 international bestselling author.
Winner of the Glass Key Award.
In the penultimate thriller in the New York Times and #1 internationally bestselling Department Q series, Copenhagen's cold cases division must hunt for a nefarious criminal who has slipped under the radar for decades.
On her 60th birthday, a woman takes her own life. When the case lands on Detective Carl Mørck's desk, he can't imagine what this has to do with Department Q, Copenhagen's cold cases division. It's a tragedy to be sure, but the cause of death seems to be clear. But his superior, Marcus Jacobsen, is convinced that this is not in fact a suicide, but a murder related to an unsolved case that has been plaguing him since 1988.
At Marcus' behest, Carl and the Department Q gang—Rose, Assad, and Gordon—reluctantly begin to investigate. However, they quickly discover that Marcus is on to something: Every two years for the past three decades, there have been unusual, impeccably timed deaths with connections between them that cannot be ignored. As they dig deeper, it transpires that these "accidents" are in fact murders by a very cunning and violent criminal.
Faced with their toughest case yet, made only more difficult with COVID-19 restrictions and the challenges of their own personal lives, the Department Q team must race to find the culprit before the next murder is committed, as it is becoming increasingly clear that the killer is far from finished.

Back to the vintage Department Q
Loved this series from the beginning, but felt it lost its way in the last couple of books and I didn't enjoy them as much as. However, this book is simply sublime, its gotten back everything that made it such an amazing story plus extra given the detailed story arch for the main characters. Cannot rate this highly enough, on disappointment was that it came to an end. Glad I stuck with Jussie and department q.

Loved it!
I love these books and was delighted to find a new one. Great story and superb narrator. It’s the first I’ve heard that weaves covid restrictions woven into the story, I binge listened but hoped it wouldn’t end. Excellent.

Plaudits to the translator
I love this series, it's brilliantly written with fantastic character development, the English narrator is fab. It's only recently though that I have realised how good the translator is. All of those idioms that Assad butchers, I don't believe that Danish would have direct correlations. So Jussi Adler-Olsen must allow him some leeway to identify equivalent UK idioms and then work out how to butcher them. It's so seamless it has taken me this far into the series to recognise it

Fantastic Listen
Jussi back to his best. You cannot beat a Department Q story. Recommend it to anyone but start at the 1st book or you will not have a clue. Thanks Jussi

Gripping in places
Again the baddies are a tad two dimensional but Dept Q remain convincing and interesting characters. Well plotted and read .

A great puzzle
I continue to listen to Dept Q because I think Assad’s camel parables are brilliant
